Filled the water butts and finally put a new washer in the hose gun. A bit of weeding, deadheading & collected some seeds.

yesterday evening was my last session on the plot, no more time before the weekend and we are going away for much of next week. Watered anything looking stressed, tied my bush tomatoes to canes for support. dragged the hoe about some and then harvested sweet cabbage, lettuce, radish and new potatos (all to give away because no time to eat).
Sad to leave goosberries, blackcurrents, more lettuce, raspberries etc. unharvester but I can't use them just now. our neighbour likes to go hide up the plot when we are away, so she waters for us and helps herself to anything she can eat.

What was supposed to be a quick half hour session to strim before the rain comes, turned into a two hour session! I managed to refill the water butt, strim the paths and weed, before planting out some leeks and lettuces, and sowing some more peas. Ive got a load of stuff that needs picking before sunday for the village open day. Also had a chat with a fledgling blackbird who was rootling around. I told him he's welcome to the ants and aphids, but id prefer it if he left the soft fruit alone
Came home and made some white chocolate and raspberry brownies, and some raspberry sorbet thats currently in the freezer

Did some weeding and deadheading the flowers.
Dug a few potatoes. Picked a big dish of strawberries.
Watered, fed and tied in the tomatoes.
Picked two Shirley toms today and had a lovely sandwich for lunch.
Two more just about ready for tomorrow.
And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

Some people on here have suggested that I'm obsessed with alliums. Well I'm not, I do other things as well.
Today, for example, I cleared some gunk from the bottom of the pond and scooped out a fair amount of the duckweed. It still comes back but is taking a bit longer each time I clear it out and reduce the nutrients.
I then planted garlic in the pond.
Society Garlic. Also planted a bog bean in there to keep it company., along with an Siberian Flag Iris and an arrowhead plant. They should soak up more nutrients from the water.
Then I mostly weeded the beds and hid in the greenhouse from the rain.
Harvested carrots, a scorzonera (which looked like a face hugger), some potatoes, some raspberries and some strawberries.

what a productive day, I finished my last bit of weeding around the brassicas or where my brassicas are trying to be when the pigeons allow it, then trimmed round all my beds paths with scissors which was a tedious job but looks nice and tidy now its done, then went round the marrow patch with the hoe taking out the weeds, then gave the whole plot a thorough drowning as its been so so dry here lately stood back in amazement at my weed free plot (for a day or two) and also spotted beetroot growing at long last, I thought the birds had taken an entire row of seed but they have popped up now

Today I finished sowing the broad beans I forgot to take with me yesterday so hopefully that'll be a harvest of broadies in October - just in time to sow the next batch
Harvested my bumper crop of cherries - 14 of them - whoop whoop whoop.
Summer pruned the fruit trees. Major haircut.
Sowed parsley root, cream carrots, spring onions, purple carrots, spring onions, fennel and Callaloo (15 tiny seeds per packet).
Finally got around to hoeing, raking and sowing buckwheat into the empty(ish) bed.
Shaved a shallot - just because I could.
Harvested another 3.2lbs of strawberries. Also took some rocket, lettuce, 2 types of spinach, coriander leaf, chard, sorel, Oca leaves and broad bean tips for a salad for tea.

To the hotment at 8.15 before it got too warm (she said hopefully). Watered and weeded. Planted out a gutter of peas, picked a good dose of broad beans for supper tomorrow and dug up some First Earlies for next door neighbour. He is poorly and they are his favourites! I have some tomatoes ripening. YAY!

Weeded, as usual. Planted out 13 buckets of leeks in the used manure from the spud bags.
Lifted the walking onion bulbs sown from last years topsets - these will be moved to a new home later on.
Emptied the buckets with the shallots in - lots of small sized shallots so that's the first leg of the experiment done. Next leg is at planting in spring.
Mulched a bed with cabbage leaves - the Loose Leaf perennial cabbage is giving more than I'm eating at the moment and they look as if theyre about to up the anti - they're developing side shoots so that's going to be even more greens. Anywhere these leaves were big and past their prime so I thought I'd give them a go at suppressing weeds. I'm sure I read somewhere that brassicas act as biofumigants - although I've no idea what I'll be biofumigating.
Picked another salad. I'm getting to quite like salads now - in the past salad equated to lettuce and a bit of tomato so it's nice to have a mix of salad leaves, herbs and other leafy veg.
Shredded the summer fruit tree prunings - I'll take them down and throw them on the heap tomorrow.

Hand weeded a large area of gravel driveway, plus tidied up and/or planted up all the pots at the front of the house.
