    • Snatched a rare hour at the plot today! Did a bit more work on edging the asparagus keyhole bed and adjacent path, weeded out some docks, couch and mare's tail, and watered the pots and baskets in the tunnel and blowaway. Harvested a couple of bags of Charlotte potatoes.

              • Today I harvested some carrots & potatoes. I sowed these charlottes on the third of April, they've stored well in the compost bag until today, harvested just over two & a half pounds,a nice amount compared with other second earlies.

A while ago I sowed these purple haze carrot seed in a potato bag (after I lifted some potatoes back in June/July) this is what I got from the bag,I froze most of them,a few are in the kitchen & I ate a few that were tiny. I put a teaspoon there for size.

                • I've sown 15 vending machine cups per module in 5 trays so that's 75 Catawissa Walking Onions.

I planted many the smaller ones in the left container that had already started to sprout and I still have not used them all

I'm going to sow the rest of them over the weekend.

I may just have to eat the larger one in the container on the right*

                  • Yesterday - a surprise bonus day off work! I had not been to the plot for a week (away) so I picked 2 carrier bags full of runner beans - about 4 pounds were edible, all the others hard and stringy, but there are still flowers so more beans to come . I prepped a batch of beans for chutney and put them in the freezer - not enough vinegar in the house. Then I picked a bucket of damsons - approximately 12 pounds. Three batches in the freezer for jam, 1 batch to a neighbour for jam and 1 kilner type jar of damson vodka! Yummy. Mowed the lawns.

                          • Yesterday I picked more tomatoes still have a lot that are green. How long would you leave them on the branch into September? should I pick the bigger green ones to ripen in the kitchen?

I thinned Carrots. checked Winter Lettuce, Kale and broccoli

Been a great first year gardening for me. roll on next year. I will get my allotment someday!

                            • Sowed what was left of a packet of mixed oriental leaves. Picked lots of chillies to freeze. Transplanted some of the winter lettuce that had self-sown into a large container to give them more space. I cut back a few leggy plants in my self sowing annual flower and veg border and although I couldn't spot any lettuce, I found plenty of corn salad seedlings coming up for the autumn and some wild rocket. Ironically I have much more luck growing salad leaves in winter than summer.

Watered courgette and chard, picked off leaf miner eggs where I noticed them for the latter.
