  • Too wet and windy for much action on the plot. Spent 40 mins up there between downpours and managed to move one whole paving slab up to my plot... the old body ain't what it once was
50cm * 50cm slabs so should just about squeeze 2*3 in width-wise in my GH.
Lots of chillis in the propagator and around the house have failed to get going and/or died off. Cayannes are doing well but I usually have trouble killing them
Need to go through my seeds and see what I've got left that I can sow again... maybe next year will be the year of the 'Devon Reaper'

          • Tonight I finished moving my dumpy bag of compost into Hadopots, sowed some radish seed, planted some shallot sets and moved some bulbs that had started to sprout.

            • Put slabs down in the GH - leaving a couple of spaces as I might want to have access to the soil for a couple of potatoes or some such.
Friend of mine half joking said 'was I going to slab the entire plot?' - I'm almost tempted just to see the look on the faces of everyone else on the committee - nothing in the rulebook to prevent it

              • Took down and dug the soil out of an old raised bed. Took out the weed membrane the weeds were growing in, built a new raised bed on the same spot and then filled it up again.

Planted out more garlic. Weeded and chatted.

                • Did some more clearing/weeding around the odd shaped fruit bed with the help of the chooks and pups. It has wire netting on 3 sides and I want to grow my multi sown peas against it. That means clearing all the weeds at the base of the fence, both sides.
I'm undecided what to do with this part of the garden Some daft idea will come to me soon!

                      • Started removing dead leaves from strawberry plants, weeding compost, adding slow release feed and giving plants/tubs a top dressing of extra compost.

                        • Didn't go down the plot today - went shopping instead. Needed some onion sets so I popped into Wi1k0s - came out with 2 bags of onion sets, 2 bags shallot sets, 1 Golden Currant, 1 Cranberry and 1 Olive plant.

                            • Popped into a small local chain store lunchtime and bought 10Kg BFB for £9.99 in a nice sealed bucket (which will later be used to make nettle tea). The season is begining to get moving I feel.

                              • Today the two E27 Light Bulb Lamp Holders that I ordered arrived and I have wire them up and screw directly under the shelf lifting the light up further*away from the top of the little chest freezer in Grow Station 2 . This hopefully will give me some extra head height for when the tomato plants grow to the point where they can be potted onto the vending machine cups, by then the next step should hopefully be the greenhouse on Spencer Road if I have managed to erect it in time.*

The other difference is that there is now a timer on the socket so that I don't have to remember to turn the lights on and off each day.

On the round trip to the post office to send some mail with proof of posting I dropped off some kitchen compost & flowers*to Spencer Road into Dalek 2, a layer of shredded*cardboard, spent hops and*horse manure.*

I*also laid out the Onion weed membrane on bed 6 ready to take the onions down when I get a chance.*I will* find a more permanent way of holding down the membrane like I have on Mill Green Allotment, but this will do until the onions go in.
