    • I think the instant noodle thingy I had for tea last light has woken up my very dormant energy bug...........

Cleaned and sorted out the shed - can now get through the door and I have a nice collection of dryer fluff for the birdies nests. Threw away loads of 'stuff' which, will no doubt be useful in the future.

Moved the massive pot with the standard goosegog in it - could'nt quite get it to where I wanted it but it weighs a ton and my spine was about to walk off with the huff because of abuse.

Constructed the 2 greenhouse stages for Gertie - my lovely next door but one neighbour is going to shift the gravel for Gerties floor on Monday so that slabs can be laid to support the staging.

Attached another massive plastic ladybug to the wall - it was found cowering in the corner of the shed.

Finished cleaning my smelly butt. I don't think my cooking sieve will be used for pasta again as the stuff on the top of the water looked very snotty.

Filled the wall baskets with fresh MPC ready for the sugar snaps.

Now off to have a lie down................as if.

      • Today I planted out my first early potatoes, Arran Pilot.
I know its a bit early but my father always tried to get his potatoes in by St. Patricks day (March 17th) and I have dont the same over the years. Fingers crossed.

          • Spent an hour squeezing sealant in to all the gaps between my shed slats but had to give up when my hands started to cramp.
          • Began emptying the compost bin which needs moved for my new beds.
          • Hammered in one of the stakesfor my raspberry supports (second one will go where the compost bin currently is).
          • Put manure pellets, fertiliser and woodchip around the fruit bushes to replace the stuff that was taken up with all the weeds.
          • Made a big pile of rotten wood and miscelanous metal bits to go to the tip
          • Removed another section of path/weeds

          • Today I planted a dwarf mirabelle plum tree in my south facing border, between a pear tree & my French bean teepee. I dug up a clump of snowdrops & made two clumps, then planted them right by the plum tree. Then I noticed my neighbours ivy kingdom was growing up & rooting into the back of my summer house (just one vine about 4ft tall,so I've removed that & what was rooting in the ground & a lot of the overhang (people who don't control their ivy! ) they've got ivy growing all around their fence borders in their garden. So that's two neighbours ivy I have to prune the fence overhang of every year, while they do nothing & think their gardens are maintenance free,if you've got ivy control it or if you can't,just remove it all & plant something nice!

            • I *hate* ivy
A chum on the plot spent 10 minutes trying to tell me the joy of a specific variegated variety he liked.
I had to pick up a 2 by 4 and point it at him before he shut up.

              • All I've done this last few days is Valet the car ready for the Southern "Road Trip" which I'm not looking forward to, but needs must! ..........

                But hoping after this..............God Willing!

It will all go quiet so I can get some gardening done!

                • Went to the Hill today and
                  • loaded the car with the rest of the pieces of ex-shed, to be taken to the tip, along with a load of rotten wood bits that I seem to have accumulated
                  • won a bout of sumo with one of the composters, with a smack-down on its side. Emptied it, put it in its new spot and refilled it with anything not 'cooked'. Roughly forked the rest in to the bed.
                  • had round 2 with the bramble aiming for World Domination - the 'wildlife area' probably needs one more go before it is in a state to tackle with a fork. I need to decide what to do with this area.
                  • sat on the new bench and chatted with Chris from down the bottom - I haven't seen her for ages. Note to self: that redundant pallet needs to go as it spoils the view.

                  • dug the last of the left over Carolus potatoes. Also dug about half the leeks, thus freeing the end of the bed ready for the next dalek resettlement.

                  • Cleaned the tunnel inside & out. No evidence any chickens were ever in there
Pricked out the red drumhead cabbage. Started sowing herbs

                    • A good day for gardening!
Planted 6 rows of Jazzy spuds (39p yellow stickered) and fenced it off so that the chooks and dogs can't dig the spuds up!
Did some weeding in the big "flower" bed and planted lots of bulbs, daffs, tulips, hyacinths, nerines and goodness knows what. I still have more cheapo bulbs to put in - maybe tomorrow.
Planted out 10 cottonwool nests of mangetout!
Found flowers on the GH MT. Won't be long before I'm eating the first MT of 2017

                      • I'm either sunburnt or have become Gollumish over winter - my cheeks are burning!
Messed about in the greenhouse, weeded, begged other people to take spare strawberry runners..

                        • Managed to get some onion sets and shallots in today- 49 Centurion F1, 50 Comred and 12 Sante shallots.
The polytunnel spuds are just pushing through so gave them a water and a covering of compost. Was tempted to put my outdoor first earlies in but held off.

                          • Done some more chopping and burning - can only burn till the end of the month and I'm at work most of that time.

Speed a root bed - parsnips, carrots, salsify, scorzonera and parsley hamburg with Russian Welsh onions and Russian Perennial leek along side of the carrots.

The autumn sown please and broad beans aren't much cop (1 bean and 4 peas) so resowed these.

Planted out a few White Lisbon spring onions and finished off the spring album beds with some Elefant leeklets

                            • Afternoon was loverly here - unfortunatley I was only allowed out this morning when it was precipitating it down - even so manged to put together a cold frame from stuff 'liberated' from abandoned plots. Chucked 3 'swift' spuds into pots in the plot GH - might be a goer. Tidied up a bit. Was a good couple of hours.
