So very sorry to hear your sad news Chas. My mother loved loly of the valley as well and she had one growing for years. Such a delicate little flower but a beautiful perfume. What a lovely memory.

Sorry to hear about your Mum, Chaz. Remember her with flowers - she would like that.
As for my day, planted 20 tomatoes into their final position in the GH. They've been in the GH for a couple of weeks so they should cope with any cold nights. I have plenty of back-ups if they should croak it.
...........and, please don't follow my example if it would upset you if your plants died Living somewhere sunshiny helps

Had some sweetcorn chitting on the windowsill (dregs of a packet from a few years ago) and surprised that all but 2 had roots and shoots.
Potted them into paper pots, including the two which hadn't sprouted yet just in case they do.

`Sorry to hear about your loss Chaz. I have an ornamental grape vine and a table grape vine planted in memory of my father (not that he would have been an ornamental person, but down here,it is much more viable than the eating sort)
I have done nothing in the garden today.
I'm planning to check the quince tree tomorrow, but the birds have probably beat me to it.
We've had a bit of rain, so there is mowing to do and no one to day it.
I mulched up the front garden earlier in the week with son.
Planted out about 35 poplar cuttings, and 4 pine trees with daughter, and crossed our fingers for a windbreak come spring.
I need to get some winter seeds in the back garden soon, but motivation is lacking. Might rev up some energy if I read enough threads on hereAli

Yesterday I decided that we're done with frosts so I uncovered my potatoes. They had been caught despite the fleece and netting, but not too badly. I'm expecting them to recover fairly quickly:
Also, I put netting up over a couple of other beds and planted out cabbages, calabrese and lettuces:
I planted out my Chrysanthemums too, so a busy day.

First of all, many thanks for all your kind words,it does help. I went over to mums bungalow earlier, and couldn't believe my eyes! A rose that I bought for her on mothers day, which had been previously decimated by the hooligans from the councils grass cutters, has risen, just about four inches but it has recovered!
I have now dug it out and re-planted it along side the Lily of the Valley I bought, just hope it likes it's new home.
Well I watered the peas, tomatoes and carrots, re-potted the last 16 marmandes, but not much else, as although the sun was out, it was bl@@dy freezing! Have a lovely weekend .Girls are like flowers, a little attention every day and they`ll blossom.

- Planted my tatties
- Planted some ramsons (whether they'll survive is another matter as they were kindly dug up for me nearly a week ago and had fainted slightly)
- Planted my trailing brambles in to their baskets (but can't hang the baskets until the shed is fixed)
- Watered everything as it was looking a bit sad
- Admired the tiny heads poking up in the asparagus bed
- Woodchipped around the strawberries
- Woodchipped the paths that are ready in place
- Did a wee bit of weeding
- Pissed off the compost ants
- Donated a load of my old wood to a community bonfire

Took the plunge and re potted all the tomatoes peppers and Aubergines. Made a frame in the tunnel with double bubble wrap and fleece cover to protect them. The last week we have had damaging frosts but it looks like it's getting better. I've been carrying everything in the house at night and out to the tunnel in the morning. No way I can do it now, don't have enough space so fingers crossed.Gardening requires a lot of water - most of it in the form of perspiration. Lou Erickson, critic and poet

Spuds taken a bit of frost dmage during the week but on close inspection I think they'll be ok. Couple of excess squash that I had no room for in the GH succumbed but everything else that I checked looks ok.
As expected the allotment site hadn't got enough stuff to sell at the May Fair - so instead I bought some plants - sprouts, cabbage and geraniums - 6 each of the brassicas for a £1 a time and 8 geraniums for £1.80 - i do like a bargain, which reminds me my bargain trees haven't turned up yet.
Planted out runner beans - might be too early but I've got loads of the bleeders in modules so might as well give 'em a go. One hour spent digging out pond (little and often is the way I think). DAd taxi at 7pm then I can kick back with a glass or two of something....sigpic

Sowed cucumber seeds under grow lights some have been soaked in tea.
Repotted a small mystery chilli with the jalapeños.
