  • This morning I fed the bees and then made up another batch of syrup.

    I watered the garden.

Planted 12 pepper plants and 1 mystery plant that I forgot to label (eggplant?) this afternoon during my break then watered them in (but that's a given ).

Tonight I fertilized everything with fish and seaweed emulsion mixed into water.

    • Last night - tied some of my kale and PSB to their stakes.
This morning - more weeding - just tearing at the weeds with strong gloves on in an attempt to stop them inundating the edges of the plot... feels like a losing battle.

      • During my lunch break I intensely scrutinized the health and well-being of my collection of apis mellifera to determine if I should engage in any pro-active counter-measures in order to maintain the status quo. I.e., I watched my bees.

        They're doing okay!

            • Popped down the plot for a while. Planted out 4 Jaltomato plants - don't ask me what they're like as all I know is if picked at the right time the berries are no longer poisonous and they're supposed to be good in jam. They're in the same bed as the litchi tomatoes which are like a tomato crossed with a porcupine.

Installed another arm of drippers into the greenhouse irrigation and planted out a couple of melons. Probably not get anything but what the heck.

Dusted the Jungle with garlic powder to see if the white rot can he tricked into coming out of dormancy.

Weeded, didn't need to water anything except the new plantings.

              Dug up dirt.

Weeded one batch of elephant garlic and couldn't resist having a furtle - decided to pull them up as the bulbs were beginning to split.

                  • Spent a couple of hours at the hotment - weeding, moulding up spuds and planting out beans. And - I have a lot of beans .... this summer I shall mostly be eating beans, salad and potatoes Although if courgette production in the past is anything to go by, there will be plenty of those too! Wet today, hoping that I will get a couple of hours either tomorrow afternoon or Monday to do some more work down there.

                    • Mostly I just felt fed up that work is eating into my personal time which means I haven't had a decent chunk of time on the plot for ages. And when I do have a chance, it's raining.

                      • Raining here, so just kitchen waste to the compost and picked some strawberries.
Supposed to be better tomorrow, fingers crossed.

Cabbages and squash looking good, broad beans looking sad, with no pods but loads of blackfly.
They seem to multiply whilst my back is turned.

                        • This morning I arm pitted all my tomatoes again and tied them to canes. It's been really windy again today.
I then enlisted hubby's help to raise the 'brassica cage '

                          • Put half a dozen chillis into their final pots, tomatoes into growbags, sowed some salad leaves and tried to fit a vent opener to the greenhouse. Will have to wait for a warmer day to know if I've got it right ;-)
