    • Photo's next weekend when its (hopefully) finished. For now, close your eyes and try to imagine approx. 10ft of white rectangular guttering attached to a wooden framework. Then try to imagine some more rectangular guttering, placed 'up-side-down' on the guttering that is attached to the framework. Finally, to complete the scene, picture a length of grey plastic tubing, probably about 14m in diameter that runs the length of the guttering with an elbow join at each end.

I'm OK "seeing" most of it but the 14m tubing seems a bit oversized

        • Tired, muddy and happy. Rearranged fruit bed to give blueberries a better chance with lots ericaceous compost, dug up and covered hopeless strawberry bed, planted broad beans, shifted artichokes, moved mint, lemonbalm and wild strawberries to the herb border and saw a kestrel badgering a buzzard.
Pretty good day! Not for the buzzard though.

          • After an experimental, but quite good productive year - I've spent the day putting a few of the beds 'to sleep' until next year.

Hand weeded them and covered in cardboard. I'm off tomorrow, so will cover the cardboard with a mixture of grass clippings and shredded leaves. I might venture to the beach and start the seaweed collection to pile on top also.
.......because you're thinking of putting the kettle on and making a pot of tea perhaps, you old weirdo. (Veggie Chicken - 25/01/18)

            • Constructed a raised bed for raspberry canes. Can’t show you a photo because we finished by torchlight!

Yes please to photos and also directions to VC's original thread please! I dumped my ousted strawberry plants in a planting box while I figure out what to do with them.. I think I've just figured it out (brazenly copying you) and bonus, the mice won't be able to get at them!

                • Tidied up the end of the verandah where my gardening bits and pieces live. Glad I did that early as there's a thunderstorm raging outside now.

Had a moment of panic when I realised I have more indeterminate tomato seedlings on the go than space to put them. Then I remembered I have 3 potato planters on their way and due to arrive in the next couple of weeks, so it's all good.

                  • Yesterday I planted out some Spring greens in the polytunnel, and harvested some spuds and leeks for making soup.

                    • A bit more tidying up today and have put my raised beds “to bed” for the winter, so to speak, but adding a layer of Strulch. I had 4 bags leftover from our landscaping project so thought it was worth a try. No soil amendment needed as the raised beds are new and filled with a lovely fresh soil mix (topped off with some grow sure veg compost).

Here’s what it looks like after giving it a light water to bed it in, for those interested. I’ve left some space around the onion sets and strawberry crowns and completely covered the garlic squares.

My bare root runners still look a bit floppy after a few days but I’m not expecting much to happen with them. The supplier have told me they won’t produce new foliage until Spring and that it’s fine to cut back the existing foliage. I’m still or sure if it’s worth leaving some of it on or not.

Sorry about the Dropbox links, the image upload didn’t work for me.

                      • Nipped down the plot in my lunch break and planted another 120 daff bulbs along the back of the plot (after digging out the mat of bramble, nettle, raspberry and ground elder roots).

                          • Woke up to a frost this morning - first of the winter!!!

Planned a good tidy on the allotment but had barely been there half an hour when a phone call meant I had to pop back home DID manage to lift a couple of salvias and pot them up to overwinter in the greenhouse, transfer 75 plug plants to greenhouse and give asparagus bed a final weeding as I'm expecting some crowns in the next day or so

                              • Planted out the last of the Burnley Gem tomato seedlings and a zucchini seedling.

Ordered some sage seeds because the plant I bought from the nursery a month ago is really struggling.
