Yesterday I harvested my first spears of purple sprouting brocolli, unfortunately they'll also be my last as they're in the raised beds I have to give up to move to the main plot.

Might worth moving the whole plant? If you take enough soil with it it might survive.. heel it in on the new plot and stake it well.

Oh and an awful lot of 'em along with lots of cat muck and weeds from the rest of the beds

                            A Romanesco cauliflower

Not a particularly big one, but a rare treat anyway.

I planted some in early spring 2016, and the plants mainly didn't survive, or grew very slowly, probably because they were in a spot with too much shade. (Thanks to neighbours letting things grow too tall, more of my garden is in shade than I'd like )

Anyway, one plant survived outdoors and unprotected through the winter, and produced a head for me which I had yesterday

Parsnips, about a dozen and shared them with my neighbour. They don't appear to be woody at all and are not over large. Still, when I got in Mrs JJ greets me at the door and says "so what do you expect me to do with those!" Charming...
