        • Potatoes

Mainly potatoes today. I usually get blight early on so last year tried Sarpo Mira. Not keen on the taste, in fact prefer shop bought.
This year I tried alouette and carolus for main crop both supposed to be blight resistant. The alouette are quite badly affected by scab and slugs and yield was not brilliant but the Carolus are looking good so far: minimal slug damage and good yield (first 2 plants 5.2kg, pictured next 3 plants 4.3kg). The halum is looking a bit ropey now but still green and I've received 13 blight alerts this year from blight watch for where I am, the first being 30th May.
Both varieties remained blight free I would say.
The proof of the potato though is in the cooking; Carolus is supposed to boil, mash and roast well so we shall see. I'm hoping they bake well as well.
