Cavolo nero and beetroot. Then when I was pulling up the last of the courgette plants, I found this monster lurking underneath...22 inches and almost 9 lbs
Last night we harvested some beetroot, sweetcorn, peppers, chillies, a cucumber (small) and the last of the outdoor tomatoes before cutting them down and also cutting off the roots of the runner beans to dry on the canes.
It's starting to look bare in places and following a truck into work this morning I noticed a lot of brown leaves being knocked off the hedgerows by the blast of air. I guess autumn is upon us whether we like it or not.
Harvested a load of tomatoes yesterday. I hadn't been out for about 5 days so when i went out yesterday i filled 2 old ice cream tubs. Still a oad to come as well by the looks of things.
Harvested my first Swede the other day as well. Absolutely lovely it was as well. I think next year i will just scrap trying to grow sprouts (2 years, 2 failures, they just blow) and grow my swede's instead.
Got a load of leeks that are looking very close to getting harvested. I think i might make a stew later in the week just so i can hoy a load of stuff in out the garden.
Had a load of runner beans as well which are absolutely lovely. First year growing them so next year i will be growing even more.
Very surprised to harvest four sweetcorn today.
Didnt think they were going to produce anything so well pleased.
Also still picking tomatoes and chillis.
And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.
This morning I've harvested the last of the apples (apart from the ones left for the birds). Sweet peppers, tomatoes, last of the aubergines. Big vat of rat (ratatouille) being cooked this afternoon.
