Playing catch up on lots of things so only a little bit done still.

The garden is filling up for June - photos were taken early this morning so some are a bit hazy as the sun was a bit low.

The house end



Tomatoes have replaced the potatoes under the cloches.

Near the apple tree



Plenty of fruit on the white currant and apple tree. More tomatoes under the cloche, a bucket of replanted Lady C potatoes, spinach (bolting in the warm weather), yellow beetroot in bucket 11 and some summer bedding plants.

Behind the garage



The net is now on the fruit cage, peas are nearly ready, potatoes growing well. Carrots, turnips and parsnips under the large net, brassica seedlings under the smaller one. Bolting namenia, spinach and a tomato in the bucket, and of course, the gorgeous Nelly Moser clematis. The empty tray is attempting to collect some of the almost non-existent rain.

Behind the fruit cage



This photo was very hard to take because of the sun. Potatoes, strawberries on the shelf, cabbages on the floor and some leeks nearly ready to plant out. There are 2 pots of dwarf french beans hanging on the fence at the back.

The veg garden



Onions are growing ok, various stages of peas, beetroot, herbs and strawberries on the path, strawberries in the hanging basket. More potatoes, one of the old calabrese plants still producing a few spears, and runner beans just starting to climb the frame at the back. Another (failed) attempt at collecting last night's "rain" near the arch.

On the patio are potatoes,tomatoes & sweet peppers with petunia & marigolds,a couple of melons in black buckets,carrots,peas & onions etc as much as I can fit in there

June Rest of the Garden
I'm using the swing frame for tomatoes,cucumbers & nasturtium with some lettuce & rocket at the front,the raised bed behind has strawberries,garlic & tomatoes. The third photo is sweetcorn,watermelon & other melons with peas & last years runner beans (celebration pink flowers) with this years white lady runner beans,makes a nice colour combination

The house end



The strawberries on the seat have nearly finished fruiting now. Tomatoes along the fence (Ferline and Crimson Crush), with leeks just visible in front. The grow light garden, which is still doing sterling work with seedlings and salads can be seen through the glass door.

Near the apple tree



Plenty of apples on the tree at the moment. White currants about ready to harvest. The green pot on the left contains one of the Balconi tomatoes which has finished its first flush of fruit (in the spare bedroom) and now has more flowers. The tomatoes near the fence are Sungold and the one in the square pot is Mountain Magic. Runner beans behind are starting to work their way towards the archway and there is a bucket of peas in amongst the flowers.

All getting a bit crowded... Another bucket of peas. Tomatoes in the growhouse (Shirley and Megabyte) and another Shirley in the bucket. Lettuces in the saladgrow. The large net has just been rearranged today and now contains 4 buckets of carrots at the far end and brassicas (brokali, calabrese and swede) at this end. 2 more balconi tomatoes in green pots, and brassica seedlings behind under the net. Strawberries and pea seedlings on the shelf. The bush under the net is the blackcurrant, and the top of the gooseberry bush can just be seen behind the big net. Potatoes on the raised bed with a bucket of half-harvested turnips under netting in front. Flowers in the drip tray in front of the growhouse.

Behind the fruit cage



Desiree and Charlotte potatoes are threatening to block the passageway and hiding a bucket of parsnips. Strawberries on the new aluminium shelving - the ones in the tower pot "slice" are the same variety and age as the ones inside the fruit cage with red fruit on, which have been transplanted from their "slice" over winter into 2litre pots and kept on self watering trays. The difference is staggering and the strawberries are huge. Also in the fruit cage are carrots and blueberries (first fruit turning blue today). Under the new shelves are carrots, kohlrabi and cabbages. There are 2 pots of dwarf french beans hanging on the fence, mostly obscured by potato foliage.

The veg garden



Another very crowded area. The peas on the left have very nearly finished, beetroot in front. Runner beans newly planted in pots near the archway, and older ones at the far end. Sarpo Mira potatoes in between. More peas in the middle and onions at the front. Behind the peas are 3 courgette plants and there are 3 pots of beetroot, one almost invisible between the peas and potatoes, one on the stepping stone and one under the net (which is there to stop the cat jumping on it). Strawberries in the hanging basket have just about finished. Cucumbers (Mini Munch and Cucino) seem to want to grow horizontally instead of climbing their mesh. Strawberries in the cold frame and in the bottom right corner and herbs in between. The black trays are harvesting rain water for the blueberries.

I couldn't resist adding a photo of my front fence, which I am very pleased with:



There is a trough of dwarf runner beans (Hestia) bottom left, and the 2 pots of nasturtiums also contain some yellow podded dwarf french beans (Sonesta).

The plot has been pants this year, maybe due to the fact my hearts not been in it, however the Spuds, Courgettes & Squashes are coming on along with the Beans in the Munty House.

July in the garden
I took a few photos today,the first photo is the view from my patio door,it's a nice mass of growth. On the patio there's potatoes,peppers,carrots,peas,parsnip,spring onions & tomatoes with petunias & marigolds. The fourth photo has beans,tomatoes,cucumber,lettuce,nasturtium & a grape vine attached to the shed. The last photo has brussels sprouts with calendula on the left then sweetcorn & runner beans with sunflowers,watermelon & white geraniums planted in front. Cape gooseberry in the orange bucket from saved seeds the mother plants on the patio in the first photo & a bit bigger than these two & there's melons in black buckets on the right side.

August photos

The house end



Tomatoes are slowly getting bigger. Strawberries have finished fruiting and leeks are growing nicely.

Near the apple tree



Sungold tomatoes should be ripening soon. Other veg invading the flower garden are Tomatoes Mountain Magic (in the corner) and Balconi yellow, and a bucket of peas (Terrain). Runner beans (Stardust) starting to produce now.

Behind the garage



More tomatoes Shirley and Balconi red. The potatoes on the right are Lady C which are about ready to harvest, the ones at the back are Charlotte. More peas (Terrain), lettuces growing nicely in the saladgrow planter and brassicas and carrots under the big net. The blackcurrant bush on the raised bed is looking very much worse for wear having suffered badly from aphids.

Behind the fruit cage



Hard to get into the corner to take a photo. The potatoes still in flower are Desiree. Strawberries are perpetuals, with the odd fruit and plenty of flowers. The yellower plants are wild strawberries, which need replacing after this year as they are very pot bound now. Broccoli on the raised bed near the fence, under the net.

The veg garden



Onions are ripening well, although some are very small (I think the hedge pinches a lot of the water and nutrients from this bed). Beetroot on the left is at last growing well -
I'd almost given up hope for it. More beans and beetroot in the buckets on the soil as well as some fennel. Courgettes and cucumbers are taking over the far end and have almost buried the strawberry hanging basket and 2 buckets of Sarpo potatoes. Strawberry plants in the cold frame and brassicas and spinach under the net on the right.
