I've not tried an unheated greenhouse. If it dropped to below freezing it would probably damage the chits.

My seed potatoes only arrived about 3 weeks ago and they are now sitting comfortably in the conservatory - very light in there, even though it is jolly chilly at night! I have always put them on top of the wardrobe in the spare room before, but ordered rather more than I intended to this year (Don't ask!) and there are too many. They appear to be sulking at the moment.

As of today, yes. Beautiful bags of Dunluce and Charlottes brought over by a friend from the UK. They are your archetypal seed potatoes. Amazing.

lyndapet, that's an interesting question. I've grown PFA in the past and while they did chit, they did seem a bit slower than the others. I took it that it was because they are late maincrop potatoes and just generally a bit behind. Not sure if that's really the case though. The chits were good - nice and sturdy, not skinny and straggly.

Here's all my seed potatoes chitting in the spare bedroom, the radiator near them is obviously turned off. The close up are Anya and french Red Charlottes which are the earlies which are going really well.

Mine are in the greenhouse in egg boxes. Also got a good bargain from garden centre, potato grown bins - plastic to assemble at home, had been £39.95 now £10.00 just got two to try. National Garden Centres chain so if you are interested, worth a look. Got ours from Sigglesthorne near Hornsea.

I got some Lady C,arran pilot & charlottes in February they've been chitting for a couple of weeks & the other day I got some red duke of York & rooster main crop for free with my gardening club vouchers they're all chitting upstairs & downstairs on the windowsills (with a space next to them so our cat can still look out).
