5.8 is quite acid! To get back to the original question, I can't see why you can't add BFB and chicken manure pellets as well as lime.
I would add the lime now though then the BFB/chicken manure at planting time.

I use magnesium limestone (dolomite lime) as it apparently can be applied to tattie beds as well as others to raise the pH, but doesn't cause scabby tatties li

Yep, all good for potassium and lime, and the plot has had its share! The woodash out the woodburner goes on the brassica bed at present, but when I get the fruit trees planted, they will get there share.

The nails in the burn't timber also help with any iron defficiency!

A lot of the leek growers turn out the soil in the leek trench and add Superphosphate of lime to overwinter, before returning the soil in the spring.

You need to get your hands on an old speaker Snadge to clear out the nails.

My dear auld dad used to have a compost heap and a heap of rusty nails at the top of his sloping leek trench. The juice ran through the nails from the heap and onto his trench! grew canny leeks anall!
