  • Maris piper spuds

    Hi

I have some of these I could use tonplant before the wife cooks em.... was planning on making a tower with buckets to grow up.

Is it too early to plant? - would leave in greenhouse for a while to protect from weather to start
And is that a suitable spud to grow in a bucket? Don't know if they are early spuds or how long they take to grow etc

    Thanks

Maris Piper is a main crop spud, you could do one or perhaps two in a bucket. It's probably a bit early yet if you want a guaranteed result, even in the greenhouse but it could depend where abouts you are. I have first earlies in my polytunnel, I always put some in during January but it's a bit of a punt. Buying certified seed potatoes would possibly be a better bet but others use shop bought and have results, not something I do though.

found 4 with some eyes and shoots already on so drilled holes in buckets and cracked on with it. Will see what happens.

      thanks

With the weather forecast even if they are in the GH I would throw a fleece over them, I usually plant my GH buckets first week of March.

With the weather forecast this weekend the fridge might be warmer but they'll sprout when they're ready,I think potatoes need about 6 degrees celcius to grow, potato towers are in fashion at the moment aren't they,I'm missing out if I don't make one, peer pressure lol it's a great idea good luck
