  • How many cucumber plants?!

    Hi

Last year I grew 3 plants and had a nice harvest. This year I'm doing 7 cucumber and 7 cucamelon which will all go in the greenhouse. I'm thinking a little overkill but we do like em.

    How many do you grow?
412% of statistics are made up.

3 as well, 1xFemspot, 1xPassandra, 1xCarmen all in the polytunnel. Carmen was rubbish, other 2 were great. Never done cucamelon but like the idea. Hope you're neighbours like cucumbers

Mine seem to have a tendency for hari-kari so I'll be sowing about 20 marketmore and 20 as yet to be decided in the honest expectation of only seeing 2 or 3 plants make it through to harvest.

      Perhaps it's me!

Mic, depends on how many in the family eat cucumbers. There are just the two of us and three plants give us an adequate supply.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

Like Bramble three cucumber plants were sufficient for two of us. I ended up googling recipes for cucumbers and made loads of soup.

We had 5 'waotoma' between two adults and two young children (2&6 last year) which was about right. Might do 6 this year as children a year older and planning some pickling.

I usually have about 6 plants, carman in the house by the patio door & miniature varieties-diva,cucino outside. I did grow a couple of plants in the walk in blowaway a couple of years ago, they did alright. My parents like the mini cucumbers a lot & I had a good supply. This year I'll probably grow about 6 plants at mine (& 4 plants at my parents).
If you have problems try sowing the seed on its side so it doesn't rot & water from below if you can to keep water away from the stem....
