  • Edible plant shoots question

Morning guys. This year I'm trying all different sorts of salad crops in the greenhouse. Amongst these I'm growing pea shoots and broad bean shoots for their shoots to go in salads. (I'll have the larger plants in the garden too for their crops). I remember Bren-in-pots saying she's growing celery just for salad pickings too and I'm wondering if you can eat other plants this way? I have loads of runner beans and French bean seeds and these won't all be going as plants, there's only so many I can fit into the garden. Does anybody know if these can be eaten as shoots and also does anybody know what other plants can be eaten as just shoots? Thank you
You may say I'm a dreamer... But I'm not the only one...

You can grow for shoots anything that you would normally eat as leaves - all the brassicas and lettuce family. Turnip, radish, beetroot and carrot leaves (young are best). Onions, celery.
As for beans, don't know. I tried goggling but not convinced about the answers

I eat the broad bean tops I've pinched out so I think they should be fine to grow and eat as shoots.

Back again I've had a look on google and found a couple of links:-

        hope this helps.

Thanks Bren I'll have a look. Just don't really want to poison us all with my great ideas!

Would Spring onions work ? I've done lot of looking around but nothing I've read has mentioned them.
