Free seeds through the post

Just thought I'd mention that I had an envelope through the post this morning with 3 packets of seeds in.

Seeds are:
Beetroot ..............Rouge Crapaudine
Brussel Sprout ..... Rubine
Pumpkin ..............Old Boer White

They are all the Rob Smith range of heritage veg from a company called Dobies and I was thinking 'can't even remember ordering any seeds' and the despatch advice with them showed the values as 0.00 and 3 items to follow. Doesn't take much to confuse me and can't think why they would send me them, items to follow are: Pea .... Blauwshokker, Squash .... Honeyboat, Pepper .... Bishops Crown.

Looking at the website www.dobies.co.uk looks interesting.

I'll deffo sow these and let you know how I get on with them, has anyone else got a packet from this company?

Rouge Crapaudine is delicious. Fantastic for overwintering. I don't know what info they give on the packet but it's a long one and will grow to a fair size but not go woody. Well worth growing. We have extremely cold winters (down to minus 17 ºC), so where you are it should do very well.

Another vote for rouge crapaudine, they really are lovely. We were eating them in January still - they hold well in the ground if it's not too wet. Mine have now turned to mush though with all the rain.

The squash's more popular name is Flat White Boer. I've grown it for 2 years now - it's delicious, very much like sweet potato in texture and taste. I find they get to about 4-5kg in weight in a good year, but you'll do well to get more than one of that size off a plant.

Just wait for the reaction from the other half when I tell her on the phone tonight when she calls from her parents place in Hampshire, she always says I'm a lucky b*gger.
