Tomatoes and potatoes

2 questions
1 when you plant seeds from an unknown type tomato how can you tell whether it is bush, trailing, etc?

2 can i plant different types of potato in the same bucket? I guess they'd all need to be earlies or whatever?

Q1 no way of telling, until the plant is quite big.
Q2 You can, but yes, they'd have to be ready to harvest at about the same time.
