    Sown this morning,

    Baby Blue Hubbard
    Black Lamp F1
    Chestnut
    Friedrich Nietzsche
    Gold Nugget
    Green Hokkaido
    Zucca Mantovana
    Mini Green Hubbard
    Olive Verte
    Red Lamp F1
    Silver Bell
    Valenciano
    Marocco pumpkin

    Gills Golden Pippin
    Sweet Dumpling

Exciting because many of these are new to me varieties, some I've been wanting to grow for ages and just waiting to have enough space.

I've a second batch to sow, a mix of moschata and maxima, but will need to wait for some space and pots!

Had an email from Sutton offering a pack of three squash plug plants for 99p delivery £4.99. They say it's for today only. They have trombocino, crown prince, patty pan and uchiki kuri. My patty pan never does well and I don't have any uchiki kuri growing but I'm trying to stay strong. I don't need more squash.

I sowed my melons (Emir and Sugar Baby) inside at the end of March along with some Shirley toms, and my Courgettes (Black beauty) and some moneymaker toms outside at the same time. The outside stuff was free seed which is why I took a gamble and popped it outside, but they all formed stocky little plants that are growing strong.

Even though Emir is an "outside" melon, I grew it in the GH last year and got a few flowers (which I understand is rare?) but they never amounted to anything because I accidentally drowned them (forgot to pop holes in the bottom of their troughs oops), and the flowers happened quite late in the year because I didn't sow them until the end of May. So all melons will be living in the GH this year.

Not sure about growing cucumbers yet... if I do get any seeds they'll be a pickling kind because I prefer eating them in salads..
Forgive me for my pages of text.

Oh, for an allotment... !! I'm intrigued... those of you that are growing 10+ courgette plants, what do you do with them all?!! Yes, I know the obvious answer is "eat them", but courgette plants are so prolific, are you not drowning in the things!? Do people freeze them? Anyway, I'm living it large and 'aving a go at squash this year, so I've sown Blue Kuri and, at some point, will set about working out where to plant it...

                          • Crown Prince came up over the weekend, that's everything squashy up except Honeybear which has been binned, as it wouldn't germinate last year either. So I have:
                            Crown Prince
                            Burgess Buttercup
                            Harlequin
                            Musquee de Provence.

                            Now, where to put them??

                            • My crown prince and uchica kuri arrived yesterday. They are potted up and in the mini greenhouse. They're looking good, hope I can keep them all alive. Have got to get all my squash hardened off and out so they can grow huge.

                              • My first 3 varieties of squash are planted in their final position.

How many squash plants would you put in a 24ft X 4ft bed ? I'm planning on 9. But I know I will have more ( unsuccessful sales stock ), that obviously can't be put to death!!!

Pumpkin and courgette will be in there own bed, 7 in total again this number my rise!
