Do you like surprises in the veg department?

Good idea, Lumpy. But... I've managed to get enough of both to germinate to know what the leaves look like. Plus, I think I might be a bit allergic to radish leaves, so I definitely know them when I touch them.

I suppose I could be a bit daring and grow yellow and green French beans together. See which do better in the same conditions. Or is that not quite in the spirit of it?

Buy some of those pomatoes, the ones grafted with tatties on the bottom and toms on the top, all we need is someone to make the leaves tasty so you get a complete meal from one plant..

Do you buy mixtures of seeds (Mixed lettuces, multicoloured carrots etc) or would you prefer to buy single varieties so that you know what each seed will produce?

Have you ever, deliberately, put seeds from different packets together and sown them, not knowing which was which - and not caring

I think you can guess my thoughts on this but I wondered whether there were other nutters who mix up their seeds for fun.

If you do, which seeds would you mix and which would you keep "pure"?
For example, would mixing runner beans be OK, or courgettes or cabbages?

Upon reading this title, I immediately had visions of being groped by the cabbages.... in the supermarket.

However, in answer to our question.... no, I like to know that i am getting what I've paid for.

I'm planting dwarf runner beans Jackpot this year which is a mix of red, white and two tone flowers.

I thought the only dwarf runner bean was Hestia (absolutely fab) 🤔Where did you get yours?

I've never had much success with mixed packs of things - one always seems to be more numerous or grow a lot better and I end up with a mountain of rocket. OK not when I grew mixed carrot but there does seem to be a lot of rocket when I never mean to plant it.

It might be interesting to mix my own seed, which would be actually equal amounts. Might try that with the odds and sods - current mission is to use or chuck all the old seed so I can buy more, but then I buy more anyway and I need a bigger seed box!

Upon reading this title, I immediately had visions of being groped by the cabbages.... in the supermarket.

I was surprised to still see green potatoes for sale on a shelf in my local supermarket despite my telling staff several times to remove them because they would be poisonous.
I was surprised when I sowed a lot of carrot seed in a furrow and about all of them germinated! I used to be lucky if only three did that!

I was surprised when I mixed three packets of sweet pea seeds and still got the same boring colours with very little scent.

I took the labels out of my chilli seedlings (don't ask why), moved them on to a sunny windowsill and then realised the labels were still on the table. Chilli surprise!!

I actually don't really know why I carefully label everything - unless I'm saving seed I just eat it anyway!

This reminds me of my father in law. He planted tomatoes I had given him without the labels. A few weeks later he lead me to the greenhouse and asked which ones were which ( they were at flowering stage) and was a bit put out when I couldn't tell him.
He's famous for his gardening mishaps, my mother in law always brings up his pansy looking lettuce...

Thank you 1Bee. Upon the inspection of my seed stash I will stick this year to dwarf french beans- managed to purchase about 4 varieties while obviously daydreaming about the space ��
