Potatoes over-wintered in my potato tubs.

Hi all,

For one reason to another I didn't harvest all my potatoes last autumn and left some Sarpo mira, sarpo axona and kestrel in their tubs outside all winter.

I emptied them all today and harvested loads, I haven't weighed them but they have filled a large hessian sack!
Some of them had quite a few sprouts which I removed and then left them all in the sun to dry.

Do you think that they would still be okay to eat?

Yes they are ok to eat! I dug volunteers up and ate them last week - I'm stlll here to annoy people

Volunteers are potato plants that grow from tubers you missed at harvest time the year before.
I was forking over the bed getting ready to plant my peas and found big potatoes, just beginning to grow. Goodness knows how I missed them last year *blush*

Lucky you! I was digging up volunteers last week and all heavily wireworm damaged... straight onto the bonfire they all went.

I'm really sorry but as a newbie to the term volunteers all I can picture are poor people giving up their time for nothing, only to be dug up and eaten by us all

I'm still getting volunteers in a bed that hasn't had potatoes for two seasons....
