Cumbers and runners will not be set before mid to late April dependent on the weather. Cumbers are suicidal anyway.

My packet says to sow from May onwards. I always grow Akito outdoors. Very prolific. Mind you, I have nothing to compare it to because this is the only variety I have ever grown.

I learned an amazing fact today that I'm sure you all know.
If you don't need a whole cucumber then you can cut a cucumber on the vine in half and the remaining half will seal over and stay fresh until you need it.
I find that incredible and so very clever!

I've also seen on Utube that if you cut the Cuc off & leave the stalk plus a small amount of Cuc on the plant, cut the stalk & stump in half lengthwise & apparently it will produce another 2 Cucs............don't know how true it is though.

                Huggins of time yet Sarah!

Don't sow mine to mid, back April, n forgot who said, sure it was "Lady P"

But once in and avoiding their "Suicidal" tendancies regarding "Neck Rot" as "Pot's" as gladly pointed out, you'll be flying!

Resurrecting this thread as it's now a month later and I STILL haven't sown any cucumbers!

Will direct sow some tomorrow in 30l pots and will see what happens, I'm late with everything this year

You're still not too late and at least now you can avoid having to harden them off. I'm about to order some more courgette seeds and some patty pan [don't ask me] so I'll be even later than you sowing. After a day in the garden, my mojo's coming back. Finally.

Thanks Yasai, I know what you mean about the mojo, mine disappeared big time until mid April and it's slowly coming back to full blown mojo, the sun certainly helps me.

Did try cucumber seeds under growlights last month to quicken the process but no avail.

Have planted 2 cucumber pods over the weekend so shall see what will happen
