Using old compost...could someone kindly remind me

As long as I don't re use for the same thing , give it some food/mix in some MPC itl be fine?

I have ..from last yr sitting
4 bags potato bags/growing bag things
4 large tubs from runners
2 tubs from courgettes
2 lg troughs from beets
1 tub from carrots
1 trough from kohl rabi

This yr..
Just planning to grow (other than flowers)

Salads
Radish
Spring onions
Runners

I tend to put mine on the compost heap for a year and it gets mixed in with the household compost.
After a year I use it.
The toms grow bags I spread on the flower beds and selected raised beds.
Don't know if this helps ?

I always half empty my pots & find a load of slug eggs,then put fresh compost around my tomato plants,some old compost goes around my beds,like where my onions & peas are,anywhere I'm not growing tomatoes,some goes in pots it's fine to use like you say CG,my old potato compost is being used for carrots & parsnip with added BFB. I sowed some rocket straight after I harvested some potatoes last year & also one potato compost bag has a few garlic in it. The runner bean compost might be good for salad leaves....

What do slug eggs look like? ! Something else I need to look out for.

They look like tiny yellow balls,a bit like pelleted plant food except slugs burst & a liquid squirts out so careful of your eyes,a little bit squirted in my eye accidentally last year or the year before,I don't think it's done any harm but it's not something you really want

I try to avoid using the same compost for the same thing 2 years running, but otherwise I just sieve the compost if its for carrots, add some bfb and sow or plant directly into it. Obviously if I come across any slugs, slug eggs or vine weevil larvae I remove them. Worms, centipedes etc stay where they are.

I would add about 20-25% manure, mix well and reuse it. CAn also try pelleted chicken manure as it is easier.

Tend to consider most composts are simply a medium for the roots to get into to support the plant, the nutrients come from elsewhere. As the previous crops will have depleted the nutrients then add some in whatever form to replace them.

Will say that used compost that has sat a year in it's old container looks darker and richer then the new out the bag stuff.
