My first ever pea frame, never grown peas before so this year will be an education, it seems quite sturdy and I took my time in building it as after lots of reading I decided I only wanted to build it once and not find out its rubbish once it is covered in peas and in a collapsed heap on the ground.. Wish me luck!!

Damian..........bear in mind that Peas grow tendrils so need something to grab hold of like string or netting, whilst Beans tend to wind themselves round supports so again strings can be used or canes.

I have a cane about 2" off the ground and there is string between the bottom and top canes in an inverted V pattern, will that be ok or should I put net on there?

You could or intertwine some horizontal strings.

It's not as clothed as I'd have liked, but I'm loving the abundance of flowers and the diversity of difference crops sharing space. Next year I think I'll grow the runner beans over the tunnel and the french beans up a teepee.

The observant among you might spot my giant sunflower looming over the side view. It's 11 feet and still growing.

                    Anyone want to share theirs?

There are 3 sowings here - the ones near the fence (Stardust) are planted in an 18 inch square pot which is invisible behind the (rather mildewed) courgette leaves. The first sowing has just finished and the 2nd has some white flowers. The ones in the pots either side of the archway are Firestorm, sown between the 2 sowings of Stardust, and the first bean from these was eaten today.

My bean frame is a teepee made with three bamboo canes, held together with string with about a million plants growing up it. What happened was my celebration beans came back for the third year so I trained them up the teepee & then they started coming up through my sweetcorn so I trained them onto string onto the teepee. Then the corn hid everything & I noticed these beans growing in a three sisters sweetcorn bean frame style. I had a lot of overwintering peas around where those beans are,on both sides, when they died down April/May they must've given a little nitrogen help to the runner beans.
