  • My Garden patch thats needs revitalizing

Hello I intend fo grow Veg and Herbs this year late spring to autumn. My garden has adequate space but earth is not good and very shady so I have no option but to use pots.

Our greenhouse was taken down 10 yrs ago , so I use a conservatory which isnt perfect but its all I got at the moment.

My garden is south wast facing

I will be asking many questions so I hope your patient

        Hi, welcome to the nuthouse.

In regards to your garden if you add some pics, peeps may be able to give you some ideas to make it a decent growing space. In regards to your soil - do weeds grow? if yes it is good enough for veg

Yeah lots of weeds grow in a majority of space I would like to grow some veg but its not that big maybe 10 feet by 2 but the ground is very pebbly and its very shady.

The weed looks likes apsaragus but is blue or purple in colour not sure of the name sorry

Maybe a project for next year , just get lots and lots of compost i guess

                Welcome again, Tarragon
You could build a frame around your 10x2 and make a raised bed. Put down a layer of cardboard on the pebbles and fill it with leaves, compost and.............grit,In fact anything organic that you can get hold of - manure, grass cuttings etc. This would smother the weeds and give you better soil to grow in.
Not all veg and fruit need full sun, some are happy in a shadier position.

I Have thought about getting a raised bed actually but I think it would be cheaper and more satisfying to get the barren part of my garden to be actually be able to grow something , I am thinking Leeks , Garlic , Onions etc would they be ok in this kinda area? Of course if it fails then raised bed is the only option

Does this "weed" have flowers? Any photos?
I wouldn't call grape hyacinths or bluebells weeds
