  • I like square pots (and I can't deny)

So - I like square pots for seedlings - they fit into trays (tidy like) and there's none of this wasted space that you get when you put round pots together - must be about 20% wasted space in a standard rectangular seed tray. I can see the point in a nice round pot for a big plant like a gage tree or a medlar perhaps - but why in the name of all that is decent (apart from getting them for free or dirt cheap) would anyone pick a small round pot over a square one. It makes no sense! Even the roots of a seedling prefer square pots.
Having said that - I'd like this vote to be nice and fair!

I've voted for square pots but with some exceptions. I like my round buckets as they have nice handles that I can carry them with. I reuse pots that I've bought other plants in rather than buying new, and a lot of these are round. I use different colours and shapes of pots to identify seedlings of different varieties of the same thing (eg tomatoes), and round pots fit in my fence hangers whereas square ones don't.

Well I like MFB's because they're practically free - they just so happen to be round and that's just fine with me.

You don't seem to have an option for 'I'll stick a plant in anything that looks like it can retain soil'

About 10 years ago I bought 4,000 7cm square TEKU pots for £80. (I was thinking of selling plants on fleabay) best thing I ever did. I've still not reached the bottom of the box because they're sturdy and wash well but it means I've got enough pots to do everything in the year and then wash them out gradually over the winter when there's nothing else to do.

What is the point in voting if you have already made your mind up that round is wrong!!!!

I find my square pots don't sit in my trays neatly so wasted space and no matter how hard you try there is no give in them to squish an extra pot in like round ones do

I'm a recent convert to square pots. They fit nicely in trays as you say with no wasted space. The small ones stand up better than small round pots too.

However, they're a pain in the # when it comes to cleaning them out. Round pots are easy to clean, I just stick my gloved hand in once dry and twist to remove the excess dirt. Square pots, the compost sticks in all the corners and they take longer to clean out. That is the one downside for me.
LOVE growing food to eat in my little town back garden. Winter update: currently growing overwintering onions, carrots, lettuce, chard, salad leaves, kale, cabbage, radish, beetroot, garlic, broccoli raab, some herbs.

Someone has sabotaged my poll - Putin and his cronies? Bloomin' Russian hackerz!
                  Teapots?

Is this what the Suffragettes fought for? (Perhaps not either way)

Marie you've voted for every option!!

I wish teapots had been an option when I voted. Imagine how awesome the garden would look with teapots in all shapes and sizes!

To follow up... I've had a gurgle and I'm totally sold on teapot gardens - if anyone has any spare teapots send them my way
