  • How much rainwater are you storing?

It's looking likely that water restrictions will be in order earlier this year.....

I was wondering how much rain water you've managed to collect so far and if you intend to store more?

we're finally due some heavy rain this week and have about 2-3,000 litres more we can store...( 4 IBC's and a sump/soakaway) .....making a total of 6-7,000 litres -plus a well which has been known to dry up.

Are you ready for a potential drought?

Is that water restrictions in France or the UK?

I have 4 of the large water butts... 200L each maybe? Three are general water storage and are hooked up to taps and one supplies the irrigation tubing (drilled through hosepipe) in the gravel trays in the potting shed.

I also have a stream and a petrol powered water pump if things get really dry!

I heard that you can refill water butts from a hosepipe and then use that water on the garden but you can't use the hose directly on the garden? Crazy rules!

I've got four 50ltr barrels connected to the guttering on my polytunnel, and they overflow into a 40 gallon water tank (sorry about the mixed units!) they're running low due to the lack of rain, so I've only been using them to water the blueberries, but usually I never need to use the mains tap except to top up the 40 gallon tank if I'm going away, as that feeds the irrigation system in the tunnel. I've got a couple of other scrounged water tanks which I'm hoping to hook up to the shed once I've fixed the leaky roof!

I am out of rainwater. Have refilled mine with the hose and am letting it settle.

I have aquired a 1000 litre IBC to hook up to a gutter/drain off my summerhouse but haven't got it plumbed in yet!

Water butts on all the GHs and garage and, thanks to the current downpour, they are all full again. No sign of a drought here!
The only time I use mains water is for seedtrays and I collect that from the hot tap - which runs cold initially.

I don't have anywhere I can put a water butt as my downpipes are all in awkward places. I collect what I can in large drip trays and store it in a plastic dustbin in the garage for use for my blueberries. Any overflow gets put into a couple of water carriers and a few old bottles for emergency use only.

Most parts of the UK should see rain in the next week - this is the current thinking on totals expected:

I have a large water butt that fills off the shed roof.

I just installed some bodged pipe work to collect the rain from the greenhouse into a dustbin.

The plan is to have an auto growbag watering system.

There is a double garage roof totally wasted.
And two down spouts from the house also wasted.

                    Should really use that

When you think of the amount of roof area people have with houses, garages, sheds and greenhouses then the amount of water and solar energy potential is enormous !

Although solar panels on a greenhouse might be a mistake!
