Just been up to the plot to stop several small pots from drowning in their bucket.

In the beds, other than the plant labels, there is no evidence that my squashes ever existed. Slugs were wrapping themselves around the new dwarf beans and even munching onions.

I broke out some of the ferrous pellets, though if I'd had time I would have gone round with a head torch and my secateurs cos then you know they don't come back.

What's your best/favourite method for dispatching them?

5mm cane sharpened with a pencil sharpened with a pencil sharpener to a fine point use like barbecue skewer, dump results in waste bin.

I put them in a jar and feed them to my friend's chickens.

Thanks for the reminder - just been out and gathered a jar full. The chickens will be happy tomorrow

We've had several,inches of welcome rain here, plants have gone bonkers and lush, the slug army has started to invade from next doors overgrown garden.

I've started collecting them and dumping them into my darlek composter, although several have had flying lessons back into the neighbours garden.

I could post some to people if they want some free.....

A couple of observations:

I used nematodes about a fortnight ago, and was interested to note that the vast majority of what I found last night were snails (nematodes don't work so well with snails). Almost all the slugs were in the raised beds, where they have a good hiding place between the bed and the neighbour's garage wall.

Its also interesting to note that the foliage of the potatoes planted in the raised bed is quite damaged, whereas the potato plants (same variety) in buckets on the adjoining bed are not.

50 mix picked up in under 10 minutes. All shapes and sizes and 2 very impressively orange orange slugs. Think I'll need to put out some more blue pellets in Cadalot's bottle traps. Downside to no-dig / mulching...

I use old beer bottoms , the sludge from real ale bottles.
Or take a milk bottle to the pub and ask the landlord for some slops. Might need to tell him what it's for!

They love beer.
A jam jar or similar sunk into the soil. Fill with about 2 inch beer.
Top with a slate raise with a few stones.
Next day dispose of the blighters.
P.S. They die with a grin on their face.

This reminds me of a joke ...

So far this year the frogs are on top of the slugs - come end of May it becomes an issue.

I even have frogs in the greenhouse - for the slugs that get inside.

I like frogs !!!
