  • Ridge Cucumbers - Ready to eat?

I've got 2 big ridge cucumbers
the flowers have died off - the ends of the cucumbers are a bit yellowish (green with yellow stripes)
are they ready to pick and eat? or nearly ready???

Although I didn't grow ridge cucumbers, yours look ready to eat!

If you look in the Virtual Show thread under cucumbers, I've posted a picture of 2 of mine that I picked. I wasn't sure if I should leave them or pick them; but they were lovely!

Yep, they look good to me. I grew Marketmore ridge cucumbers last year in a big pot, and they were a greeny yellow, but tasted wonderful.

i tried them - very bitter - think i remember reading in another thread that they get bitter if they don't get enough water .... fingers crossed the next ones are better ... or will all cucumbers on those plants, including the tiny baby ones, suffer the bitterness now?

Think i read somewhere that it has something to do with pollination. You may have to remove the male flowers or something like that, if you have a certain type. I'm sure someone will come along shortly and be able to tell you if i'm right or not.

Don't remove the male flowers with ridge cucumbers, it's only the indoor ones.
