  • Cucumber trouble

    Hi all

Can anyone tell me what's wrong with these cucumber plants? The lower leaves have all died and the top ones seem to be going white as shown in pics?

I was thinking powdery mildew at first but doesn't really look much like that?

    Thanks

EDIT: The variety is iznik F1 which apparently has a very high resistance to powdery mildew.

I have only three years trying to grow these, but my guess is red spider mite.

Look on the underside of the leaves for small red dots.

If so, Iv read you should keep them moist. (Ie spray them with water as often as possible)

Iv just tried using some chemical in a bottle (cant remember the name will check in the morning) to get rid of mine, but today I noticed two potential cucumber flower have died. (its too early to know whether this new chemical was the cause or not)

It doesn't look like mildew to me. Have they got very hot in the sun? It could be scorch, particularly as some of the leaves look dried up and shrivelled. It could also be red spider mite, which is a problem in hot conditions particularly indoors. I shade my cucumbers from very hot sun and they like being misted with water, which spider mite are not so keen on.

Deffo looks like sun scald to me, very hot sun causes the sap in the leaves to over heat. Cumbers do not like direct sun, warm and moist is there thing. Do be careful though as if the stem is standing in very wet compost you will suffer from stem rot.
