  • Climbing bean

    Hello peeps,

I was in Dyffryn Gardens today, and as part of a new potager they had a climbing bean called something mena, (mena might be spelt differently). It had an amazing flower stem a bit like that of crocosmia, it went from yellow to orange then red. It might have been ornamental but, it looked stunning. I had a search online when I came home but, can't find it. Has anyone come across this climbing bean.

Interestingly they were making a gourd arch tunnel, which sounds awesome, can't wait to revisit later in the year.
I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.

Haven't been to Dyffryn since NT took it over but love the gardens there.

Awesome VC, you should visit again, we had lunch in the cafe at the entrance. I had an amazing vegetable curry almost soup like bowl of loveliness. Mild in heat but, packed with so much flavour and texture.

They have been revamping quite a few of the individual smaller gardens, and the gourd patch with its meandering arch will be outstanding come Autumn. The plants throughout are looking spectacular, and I coveted many a climbing rose, and what looked like a fuchsia tree with no name, grrrr.

Thanks for the encyclopaedic knowledge, you have come to my rescue again.

I did some work there when the House was being stood down from Council ownership, and had a private tour of the house and gardens, all looking a bit sorry for themselves. Here's some useless information to astound your friends............You know the ?drained lake at the far end of the gardens with a tower alongside it? Inset into the inside bank of the lake are glass viewing panels. Visitors could go into the tower, down some stairs, and look through the window under the surface of the water to see the fish
Wonder if they'll ever restore that?
