Salsify flowers?

Have just got back from the allotment and have a question...

I am growing salsify for the first time and have heard that if left to over winter they will have little blue flowers in the spring. My plants are flowering at the moment with beautiful orange cosmos type flowers. Is this normal or have I planted something strange?

Any information gratefully recieved!

Well I'm so glad I'm not the only one! My plot neighbour thought they were french marigolds! I was under the impression that they were to flower next year and wondered what I'd done wrong but now I've read your post I'm not worried - maybe it's just the weather we've had.
