What I intend to do today/tomorrow!

Rained for most of the day, so still not finished removing the infected apple trees yet, so spent an hour or two in the greenhouse, some tommies finished and removed, ditto the butternut squashes and the sweetcorn. Now getting more room inside.
Next job on a nice day is to clear everything out of the greenhouse, wash the inside with a certain fluid that smells a bit and then bring pots inside, some to be plunged into the border soil to protect the roots from the frost.
Raised beds are looking good, still quite a few crops still to harvest yet, French beans need picking once the rain stops and clear their bit. I don't grow crops in the raised beds over winter, once the carrots and celery are harvested, I cover the beds with chicken wire to stop them being used as toilets by various animals, I usually add the manure in winter, but the compost won't go on the bed for next years roots until the spring.

Well recently Carol has listed and catologued our modest but not inconsiderable seed stock. Anything with sow before 2017 was binned....I didn't cry, honest.

Last night we wrote a list of the things A) we want to grow to eat, and B) we can grow satisfactorily on our plot. We made a concious effort to avoid esoteric niceties this season and to establish a good harvest rather than surprise ourselves growing jerusalem artichokes or failing to get decent celery (again).

We then got the seed catalogue supplied by our allotment association (low cost and adds funds to the coffers), and orderred the things needed to achieve our intentios without duplicating seed stock. We have invested a further £15.

Lunchtime today I went to the local supermarket and got two more bags of white onion sets (£1.99 each) to add to the bag of red and bag of white we already had.

It's begining to look like our most organised start to the season ever! All we have to do now is work out the bed rotations and seed starting dates. Of course all that goes out the window when i start having bright ideas or shoving stuff in the ground any old where, but the intentions there.

Still a positive start, and we have plenty of manure and compost on the plot to make up a few beds already.
