  • Monday's jobs
    Mow lawns if at all possible - done
    Sort through stored Lady C potatoes and use the ones that are starting to sprout - done
    Weeding and deadheading - no
    Harvest salads, blueberries, tomatoes, spinach, courgettes - done some

    Also spiked the rear lawn, put a bit of soil on the sunken bits and scattered some lawn seed on it. No idea if I've done it right, but it can't look much worse than it did.

    Tuesday's jobs (work permitting)
    Weeding and deadheading
    Harvest bucket of Sarpo Mira potatoes
    Move fennel and spring cabbage to fruit cage
    Harvest salads, blueberries, spinach, courgettes, beetroot

      Days 27 - 31 are alphabet wild card days. It all starts again on the 1st of the month.
      There is a plan in there somewhere, honest
      It's nice having those few days as spares where you have the freedom to pick any letter you want & maybe you could do five letters in one day if you want,it's your choice like a little treat at the end of each month

        • I have sooooo much to do - full blown winter seems to have arrived while my back was turned

          * Harvest potatoes
          * Pick / trim tomatoes (bring them all inside to ripen?!)
          * Move chillies inside
          * Tidy up / weed - it currently looks a right state
          * Pick corn
          * Check brassicas for caterpillar / blackfly
          * Harvest ripe squash
          * Trim back raspberries

          Going to dry do a little bit after work each night!

            • PIcked a ioad of grapes from my 3 year old vine today - bearing in mind I really don't know how to prune them (as I've mentioned on other threads) I'm well chuffed. So - tomorrow - home made wine (made from grapes - blimey) and some left over to bulk up a blackberry based tincture-to-be. Have burnt off quite a lot of detritus this evening and last - plot is almost ready for next months final inspection of 2017

              • Tuesday's jobs
                I'm waiting for some software to arrive at work and I will be very busy when it does, but it has been delayed so I had more time than expected today.
                Weeding and deadheading - done some
                Harvest bucket of Sarpo Mira potatoes - done, only 0.75kg from 3 seed potatoes. My Sarpo Mira have been very poor this year.
                Move fennel and spring cabbage to fruit cage - done
                Harvest salads, blueberries, spinach, courgettes, beetroot - done some, including finishing the spinach, which has been the best I have ever grown in summer. Also harvested the remaining apples and some french and runner beans.

                Decided to sow some mooli in the bucket the potatoes were in, as I had found a packet of seeds.
                Cleared up some of the blueberries that had fallen on the floor during the gale and also 2 large pieces of runner bean plant that had broken off.
                Ordered slug and vine weevil nematodes and some border edging that matches what I have already used on the veg garden to see if I can make the bed a bit higher.

                Wednesday's jobs (work permitting)
                Weeding and deadheading
                Trim the edge of the front lawn next to the drive
                Sort out the brassicas under the big net - need to check for snails as something is eating them
                Harvest salads, tomatoes, blueberries, beans, carrots and try some kale.

                    Sort out the brassicas under the big net - need to check for snails as something is eating them - done and shuffled the pots a bit to make calabrese and kale a bit easier to harvest
                    Harvest salads, tomatoes, blueberries, beans, carrots and try some kale - done most, somewhat underwhelmed by the kale which I found rather tough even though the leaves felt soft. The tortrix moths seem to like kale

                    Today is busy as usual for a Thursday, and it is going to rain anyway.

                            Harvest blueberries, salads, tomatoes, beans, courgettes - done
                            Check strawberries for ripe fruit - found 3, more in the next day or 2.

                            The blueberries are nearly finished now, with most of what's left being rather small or damaged by caterpillars/wind. The strawberries are Just Add Cream, which are by miles the best perpetual I've grown, both from a productivity and a taste perspective.

                            I got a bit distracted because the border edging I ordered had arrived. Put it in place around one end of the veg garden, making a slightly raised bed. I'm not going to fill it for a while (no point in encouraging the tree roots) but I want to see if I get used to looking at it and make sure I am not going to trip over it as it is intentionally brown and therefore not that easy to see.

                            Weekend jobs
                            At my friend's:
                            Inspect greenhouse tomatoes and remove anything mouldy, pick ripe fruit.
                            Check melons for ripeness
                            Plenty of weeding
                            Harvest Sarpo Mira potatoes if not too wet - use compost to mulch the bed where the onions were.
                            Harvest cucumber, beans, courgettes, tomatoes, peppers and hopefully a melon

                            At home:
                            Weeding and deadheading
                            Spike front lawn
                            Apply nematodes (both vine weevil and slug) if weather is suitable (not bright sunshine)
                            Pot up spring cabbages
                            Rearrange plants in grow light garden
                            Planning for next year (to make sure I have enough empty buckets for potatoes, carrots etc)
                            Harvest salads, tomatoes, beans (french and runner), bolting leek, carrots
                            Check strawberries, calabrese, courgettes

                              Tomorrow is Sunday, 24th in Shoots week.
                              On Sundays, I sort out the seeds for the following week.
                              I'll tidy Bed 24 (Gooseberry bed) and do things with an X (or not!).

                              • I'm in the process of removing all of the raised bed timber as it is rotting & going back to traditional beds. I'm about half way through so weather permitting I'll do a bit more tomorrow.
