  • Tuesday jobs
Put strawberries and flowers back in cold frame in anticipation of frost tonight - done strawberries (mostly to protect the fruit from rain) - teh temperature is now forecast to fall to 4 here.
Empty water out of drip trays so they don't crack if it freezes (I really need to remove the rest of these) - done some
Continue tidying up if possible - cleared a few leaves
    Harvest salads, carrots - done

    Wednesday jobs
Weeding and deadheading what I can get at without walking on the lawn
More putting away in the garage
    Harvest salads, carrots, calabrese

The garage is a much bigger job than it sounds because it is full of buckets of compost drying out a bit so it can be sieved for carrots. Putting anything away requires a major rearrangement so I have to sort things into categories then create access to the place where that category (eg nets) lives... There is method in the madness somewhere (I think).

      • I've done pretty much all the fun stuff I can do for the week so tomorrow I need to mow and edge. The grass has grown heaps since the rain at the beginning of the week.

Another incredibly busy day at work - sod's law that Monday and Wednesday (nice and sunny) should be the 2 days that it was impossible to do any gardening while Tuesday (wet) was completely quiet at work. today is busy as usual for a Thursday so I'm hoping for a chance to catch up on Friday!

Remove dead bedding plants - done some also removed the cucumbers which were clearly dead.
Sieve more compost for carrots if dry enough - not really
                    Tidy garage - no
Harvest salads, parsnip, kale - done

Potted up some lettuce and komatsuna seedlings.
Turned on the upstairs grow lights as the carrots have germinanted.

Managed to snatch a few minutes here and there to do a few little bits. Hopefully I will have a bit more time at the weekend (pigs might fly!).

                    Weekend jobs
                    At my friend's:
Check greenhouse plants (cucumber, sweet potatoes, peppers and lettuces), water if needed
Remove dead/dying outdoor plants (tomatoes, courgettes, runner beans)
                    Weeding

                    At home:
Continue weeding, deadheading and tidying up
Remove dead bedding plants and french beans
Put strawberries and other vulnerable plants in cold frame or garage (cold Saturday night, very cold Sunday night)
Empty some water trays and put in garage to dry (has to be done in stages due to lack of floor space)
Harvest salads, peppers, carrots, leeks, eat bean sprouts

                    • Today I need to start off some more cucumbers. There's something wrong with the ones in the raised bed (which are flowering at the moment) so I need back ups in case I decide to pull them out.

                      • Picking the first of the leeks tomorrow (along with other stored and frozen stuff) to make a big, massive pot of vegetable soup.

                        I love soup.
.......because you're thinking of putting the kettle on and making a pot of tea perhaps, you old weirdo. (Veggie Chicken - 25/01/18)
