    • Today, Monday 8th is the start of Shoots week - the day when I sow leeks, onions and things with funny names.
I should tidy Bed 8 but its still very cold so probably won't do more than go and look at it.
      Decluttering an H or 5.
Also Boiler being serviced at the neighbour's house down the road and I'm on call for that!

          • Monday jobs
            Continue planning - in progress
Harvest salads - done plus a carrot from the garage

Also had a good walk round checking everything and making sure I'm not neglecting the garden! All looks fine (there is really just the moss to get off the hosta pots, which can't be done when its frozen anyway).

            Tuesday jobs
Go to allotment and check the state of the ground (its about defrosted at home) - decide what to do there depending on frost/wet
            Harvest salads, carrots, brokali

Dug out the raspberries and some weeds at the allotment. Took a couple of dustbins from the garage to store water and perennial weed roots. By the time I'd got home and dealt with work it was too dark to start harvesting things!

              Wednesday jobs
Bit fed up with the weather which was forecast dry for today, but now its apparently going to rain all day here.
More weeding/digging at allotment, weather permitting
Go to Wickes and get a few bricks (to weigh down weed matting for paths temporarily) and a couple of paving slabs to stand the plastic dustbin and another water butt (later) on so they are level.
Sort out garage (a mess due to extracting dustbins from the far corner)
              Harvest salads, carrots, brokali

Found a tortrix moth caterpillar on the brokali. I was hoping the damn things would not survive the frost, but they clearly do . Needless to say it did not survive being found by me. Also found and removed a load of slug eggs and some slugs under the blue barrel at the allotment. Food for my friend's chickens at the weekend.

Busy Thursday, so no gardening today.

                      • I'm suddenly motivated! Because the weather is lovely (but cold). I'm hoping to cover the bed in the tunnel with well rotted manure and weed fabric. Also clean tunnel inside & out.

                        • Removed the fire bricks that I had placed in my fire and placed them round the top of the fire and the chimney, can now fit large logs onto the fire
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.
