  • Just sown the last of my parsnips - and spotted the first shoots of my Nipper leeks and Flyaway carrots. Was wondering what had happened to them.

I've got some Aquilegia to sow in rootrainers and I guess I'd better plant out the two Passion Flowers that have been living in pots in the greenhouse since they are now definitely reaching to find something to cling on to.
Might also pot out the last of the Sweet Fresca strawberries I sowed in late December, they are about big enough now.

No mowing to do, I did that the day before yesterday. Sometime I need to shift eight large paving slabs from where they are stacked down the middle of the drive and lay them down as a path beside the drive - but I may well decide it's too hot for that sort of work today ;-)

    • Weekend

Check out new seedlings. Plant more brassicas if they seem ok. - Yes, more seedlings planted.
Continue hardening off other seedlings. - Yes. They've been staying in the garage overnight and will be more exposed tonight.
Sow flower seeds in the back of the plot. - No, the soil was too hard and dry.
Weeding! - Just in the area where I planted the brassica seedlings.

We also bought some new evergreens for our front garden. I mowed the front. We worked on the devilish greenhouse that we bought. We finally seem to have the instructions cracked so hopefully it will be finished soon.

      Monday/Tuesday

Take lawn clippings to the plot.
      Plant out more seedlings.
      Place more slug traps.
When the weather is cool enough for long sleeves, pull up some nettles.

Take lawn clippings to the plot. - Yes. Spread a thin layer on bare ground between crops. Hopefully past the heating up to break down stage.
Plant out more seedlings.- Yes. More beans and marigolds plus a couple more. I need to get everything in before the last week in May, whatever the weather. Who planned these trips during the growing season?
Place more slug traps. - Yes. One more. Emptied and refilled others.
When the weather is cool enough for long sleeves, pull up some nettles. - Did a bit of debulking weeding. Not digging up the roots, just clearing off the tops. Got a nice nettle sting despite my sleeves and noticed bindweed is suddenly making enormous progress on the back of the plot.

          Wednesday/Thursday

Get some more panels in the polycarbonate greenhouse. Hope to finish it off this weekend.
          Plant out more seedlings.
Collect any rainwater from the ground coverings.
          Turn and wet compost pile.
          Pot on my remaining seedlings/plants.
Put up a barrier/edge between my plot and the jungly communal area that abuts it.

Get some more panels in the polycarbonate greenhouse. Hope to finish it off this weekend. - Nope. It will be finished this weekend though.
Plant out more seedlings. - Yes, quite a few.
Collect any rainwater from the ground coverings. - None to speak of!
Turn and wet compost pile. - Turned it a bit. There were flies around it though and I didn't feel like getting more involved. More work to be done.
Pot on my remaining seedlings/plants. - Almost all.
Put up a barrier/edge between my plot and the jungly communal area that abuts it. - Nope. Rather more seedling planting (and digging out straggling perennial weeds) than expected.

                    Friday

                    Finish greenhouse.
Plant some flowers in the borders at home.
Move some plants into the greenhouse.

                      • plant some sweetcorn seeds, possibly plant out my courgettes/squash (bought plants this year - hangs head in shame...), play with my new netting hoops.

the good news is that I have palmed off two wisterias, a bay tree and a grape vine cutting to my mum... (which will mean more space to for the next lot - I am determined to do cuttings this year)

                              • Forgot to plan ahead for today, but my Very Nice Partner helped me liberate some compost from the bottom of the heap to mulch some of the veggies. Also ripped up some nettles and turned one of the two heaps in the process.

                                Monday/Tuesday

Start feeding some of the plants.
                                Pot on the herbs.
                                Pull some weeds.
