  • Well...a cold got the better of me after the jet lag wore off. So a whole lot of nothing has been going on. Finally had a bit of energy today, so got briefly to the allotment.

    Wednesday/Thursday

Continue weeding. - Yes, used the hoe to great effect.
More slug traps. - Not yet, but gratified to see the sugar/yeast/water worked as well as the beer.
Sow sweetcorn at the plot. - No. Probably too late now but that may not stop me when I get some energy.
Plant out remaining flowers. - Still some left to go into baskets and containers.
Turn compost. - Nope, that's a job for a day with energy.

Attended a strimmer class at the allotment to get permission to use the site petrol strimmer. Hoed some of the beds and watered with a nettle tea. Potted on tomatoes at home.

    Sunday/Monday

    Order more compost.
    (Pending arrival of compost
Finish potting on tomatoes into final pots.
Get last flowers into containers and baskets.
Pot on herbs, chilli peppers, aubergine.

      • watering! not sure when, but it's very dry out there...

Luckily the clay got good and wet over the winter, so anything that can establish itself is OK, but it's a long time since we had any good rain.

My usual defence is a mulch of woodchip, but I don't like to do that over new plants as the slug risk goes up...

Set more slug traps. - Yes, refilled four traps. Tipped the old liquid and <ahem> former imbibers on the compost.
Sow a few seeds in likely vain hopes. - Yes. Now I shall hope against logic.
Take grass clippings to plot. - Yes. Also dragged some surprise homemade compost. Spread around the courgette/squashes/corn.

Harvest strawberries. - Yes! Some perhaps not at absolute peak redness...

                      • I'm so erratic, I should probably post on another thread. Sorry...better late than never, I hope.

                        Wednesday/Thursday

Weed. - Yes. Hoed between the brassicas and corns. Strimmed around the perimeter of one of the beds and the paths. With help from Very Nice Partner in this heat.
Water. - Yes. And VNP even refilled the water butt with several cans of water.
Harvest strawberries. - Yes, along with currants and raspberries. My very favorite kind of harvest.
Cut back non-strimmables that are encroaching from the perimeter. - Yes, some. Cut back some brambles, unwanted saplings, and holly. Still plenty to do.
Sow some flower seeds in the greenhouse. - Not yet.
Find a place for the stragglers in the greenhouse. - I plant to put them in at home, but I'd like to wait til we get some rain.

Also planted some potatoes that were just around and about.

                        Monday/Tuesday

Take new weed bucket to plot.
Break up some dirt clods from my piles of clay-encrusted roots.
                        Water.
                        Weed.
                        Order more compost.
