    • I've had a busy day doing car things which took me away from the garden
Have a bit of catching up to do.

Tomorrow is Tuesday, 10th in Roots week
I will plant a couple of buckets with spuds, carrots and some other roots
Clean out the chooks as its Chooksday
      Tidy beds 9 and 10
      Do things with a J
I also have to take the dogs to the vets for their jabs - that's 2 trips
Better hope for fine weather as I'm going to be busy!!

        • If it's still light enough when I get home I intend to empty one of the home compost bins (almost pallet size) together with an old oil drum filled with shredded hedge trimmings into the car trailer and take them to the plot ready to use whenever.
Then I can turn the second bin into the first and carry on filling with late grass cuttings and all the garden trimmings with more hedge cuttings shredded in with the sweetcorn and sunflower stalks. Otherwise theres no space for all the material I'd like to accumulate.
I expect daylight will get the better of me but i'm determined to have a go, Wednesday evening talks of showers at the end of the day so onwards and upwards.

New members posts do sometimes get moderated by "the system" and this is outside the control of our very lovely, unpaid moderators. They do their best to keep an eye on all the posts but, this is a busy forum, and they can't read everything immediately.
I know how lovely and overworked they are as I used to be a Mod myself - until I escaped

              • Tuesday jobs
Check tomato plants and remove any that look like they may be getting blight.

I removed the other balconi red plant which possibly had blight,, but I'm struggling for space in the hotbin so I left the remaining plants for now.

Used some unexpected spare time to dig out the rotted horse manure from the hotbed I used for early potatoes and put it in my raised section of the veg garden. My green compost bin was about half full of compost that was "difficult" because it had grown potatoes that possibly had blackleg last year and had also done a round of brassicas. I put this where the hotbed had been because this bed is now home to the blackcurrant bush (still in its bucket at least for now). I now have an empty compost bin which will help with the storage.
                Harvested french beans and carrots.

Wednesday jobs (potentially busy at work and weather unlikely to be helpful)
                Check tomato plants
                Weeding and deadhaeding
Check fence pots and water if necessary
                Harvest salads, carrots, bolted leek

                    • I've been overtaken by events this week - unplanned things that took me away from the garden. Today, purely by accident, I have created a "hot bed" and have buckets sunk into it, ready for planting tomorrow.
That'll be spuds, carrots and I'm not sure what other roots yet.
                      It'll be Tidy bed 12
Do things, include Declutter & Clean with an L
Thursday is Thinning & Transplanting day - not sure what I'll find to thin yet (but it should be me)

                      • Wednesday jobs
Check tomato plants - done - removed the last balconi and Mountain Magic plants
Weeding and deadheading - done some deadheading
Check fence pots and water if necessary - done
Harvest salads, carrots, bolted leek - done (more leeks are now bolting)

Also checked the green tomatoes that had been picked in the last couple of days and threw out a punnet full as they were rotting from blight
Washed a load of plant pots ready for storage.

Busy today but just time to check the tomato plants and stored fruit.

                        • FINALLY managed to get shallots (longor and griselle) planted, plus garlic. Pulled up sweetpeas, cut down parsley seedheads and laid them out on the parsley bed - hopefully they'll reseed themselves!

                              • Start moving all the infrastructure from my second allotment to my first allotment as I can no longer divide my time between two plots on different sites and it appears I will be getting the overgrown plot next to my existing plot on my first allotment which now has a drop off and pick up area (not allowed to call it a car park) so I will not have to give it up anyway, which is why I took on the new plot on another allotment anyway.
