      • Finally finished moving the compost and soil. I doubt I'll get around to mowing today. Think I'll reward myself later today by planting my newly arrived seeds and let the mowing wait until tomorrow.

Never again will I order so much soil/compost without someone on hand to help me move it.

            • Today I intend to mow at least the back lawn and to plant some of the seeds which arrived yesterday. [got both of these done but couldn't mow the front as the lawn mower decided to die].

I also want to get around to splitting my mint and oregano and to tidying up the end of the porch where my gardening bits and pieces live.

Running out of hotbin space AGAIN!

Also went to the stables and collected enough fresh horse manure to half fill my green compost bin (will probably bring another load at the weekend). I'm hoping this will rot down enough over the winter to use either on the beds or to mix with used compost to freshen it up in the spring.

                  Thursday jobs (work permitting)
Weeding, deadheading and general tidying up
Sieve some compost ready for carrots in spring (I grow so many carrots that it is a good idea to start sieving early!)
Tidy up some of the stuff in the garage
                  Harvest salads.

Sieving compost for carrots gave me an idea. Last year I sowed carrots in January in a tall pot indoors and grew them under lights then on the windowsill when I needed the lights for tomatoes - they were ready in late May. Having already potted up 2 tomato sideshoots which need the lights, I decided to sow a pot of carrots now to keep them company and hopefully I will be able to eat them in March-April.

                      Friday jobs (work permitting)
Attempt to trim rear lawn edges if lawn is dry enough (last chance - heavy rain forecast tonight)
                      Continue tidying up
                      Harvest salads, carrots, kohlrabi

                            • Today if it stops raining cut some weed membrane for the paths on plot 1A

Tomorrow If my daughter decides to sleep most of the morning as she has pulled six early shifts this week, but at least she can keep an eye on and an ear open for Mrs C then I'm hoping to escape from the house and get a full mornings work in on my new plot as I'm getting cabin fever and desperately need some allotment therapy to recharge my batteries.
