Mow lawns if possible - done
Compost bin should arrive - take to plot and assemble - done
Turn compost if time - no
Sow leeks and more carrots - done carrots

The compost bin didn't arrive in time for me to turn the compost but I did do some more digging in the tunnel and shred some leylandii. Also potted up the chitted peas.

    Sow leeks
    Harvest salads, spinach, carrots

    • Tuesday

Looks like we might be mostly dry for the rest of the day. I'll let it warm up (and hopefully dry up) a bit before heading down to the allotment. I need to check on the very ugly makeshift water butt system we put up over the weekend. I'll also take the kitchen bits down to the compost heap.

If it's not too soggy, I'll dig out some of the edges of the clear area and sow some rocket, mustard and other spicy leaves.

      Wednesday

      Nope. Full-on rain forecast again.

      • My garden is still under water and despair is setting in, I have to paddle to access my polytunnel. However the dog does not mind so gardening time is cleaning muddy footprint time.

Everything done except digging the edging. (Even made awkward small talk about the mud with another allotment holder.)

          • I seem to have lost a day, probably because Tuesday was a pretty awful day in every respect and I got nothing constructive done, gardening or otherwise.

            Tuesday jobs (done on Wednesday)
Turn compost if possible - done
Sow leeks - no, but sowed some spinach (the leeks are going in at the allotment and I keep forgetting to take the seeds!)
Harvest salads, spinach, carrots - done, plus some PSB

            Also chopped more leylandii.

Nothing doing today unless I can squeeze some gardening in this evening (unlikely).

              • My peas have sprouted that I started on Monday so I'll be sowing them into guttering today.

                • Can it be? The sound of the persistent (dreary, miserable, previously-thought-to-be relentless) rain has stopped. I don't know how my work schedule will play out yet, so...

                  Today or tomorrow
Dig out my newly identified, unwanted "ornamental" grass while keeping my mystery flowers intact
Photograph newly liberated mystery flowers with their actual foliage
                  Transplant some sedum
                  Plant some summer flowering bulbs
Scrounge some newspaper/cardboard/opaque plastic to cover newly exposed areas

                  • *if* it's dry, I shall be planting out my asparagus (if it's raining I may well be planting it out and getting wet...). I've got a couple of bags of sand to stick under them

I shall be checking on my spuds and hoping.
I think my beetroot have let me down, but it's very old seed, so apart from one or two that are coming, I shall replace the rest with newer seed.

*if* I get through that lot, I shall try and paint my acquired boards with preservative, so I can get them out of my garage and store them outside.

Also, on Saturday morning, I shall mostly be watching Tornado go up the main line
(Last time I got wind of a steam special, got the small person there to watch. Once it had thundered past, he looked at me and said "again!"... if only I could organise that...)

                    • Well i'll be doing nothing until saturday as this week has been cold (5 C), wet and foggy. Absolutely sick of it.

Got loads to do in the garden but this weather isnt helping at all.

To windy to uncover **it heap. The tarp would of turned into a very big kite.

                        • Yesterday I did manage to find time to pot up 2 balcomi tomatoes, which are starting to flower.

                          Friday jobs
                          Sow leeks at allotment.
Apply nematodes at allotment while weather is not sunny. This is going to be quite a long job as it involves taking up each piece of fleece over the raised beds, and as much of the weed suppressant as possible.
                          Harvest salads, leeks, mizuna

Dig out my newly identified, unwanted "ornamental" grass while keeping my mystery flowers intact - dug around the edge. Grass has a stay of digging out for the moment.
Photograph newly liberated mystery flowers with their actual foliage - done
Transplant some sedum - not yet
Plant some summer flowering bulbs - done (sorry, realized this isn't veggie-related!)
Scrounge some newspaper/cardboard/opaque plastic to cover newly exposed areas - outsourced

                            Tomorrow

More digging and dirt clod-piling. It's kinda my thing.

Sow leeks at allotment - no, work got in the way and nematodes were more important
Apply nematodes at allotment while weather is not sunny - done
Harvest salads, leeks, mizuna - done except leeks, also harvested the rest of the komatsuna

Also collected up a load of slugs and snails from under the fleece and weed matting.
Turned on the upstairs grow light garden and rearranged the upstairs plants as they were getting too crowded under the lights.

                              Weekend jobs

Open all cloches, covers and greenhouse in anticipation of sunshine!

                              At home
Mulch apple tree (should have been done ages ago but no access from flooded lawn)
Put self watering trays under strawberries in anticipation of hot weather
                              Pot up Shirley tomatoes
                              Feed tomatoes and peppers

                              • Saturday

More digging and dirt clod-piling. It's kinda my thing. - Oh yes, plenty of digging.

I also started building a bean frame. This required me to walk to the allotment (usually only about 10 minutes) carrying two 8-ft lengths of wood and one 6-ft length. (For maximum enjoyment, you should also imagine me carrying an old recycling bin and a cloth bag.)

                                Planted a couple of things.

Snipped up some short holly lengths to scatter over where my early potatoes are planted. I've noticed the first lovely little purple-green leaves this week.

Chatted with the secretary for the site who came to advise me on my trellis (and probably just see what on earth I thought I was doing). Also received a compliment (ahem, Brits are so polite) about my very ugly water butt set up. I'm feeling resourceful but a bit embarrassed about the rattle trap nature of my plot.
