  • Back into a routine again!!
Tomorrow is Chooksday and its Shoots week. I'm going to sow some sweetcorn - not sure whether they're "shoots" but I'm doing it anyway!
Its also the 1st May and I'm starting the 30 Day plan again - so its weed and tidy Bed 1A.
Feels good, being back at the beginning again.

    • Chillies into tunnel for the day. Done
Everything out of other tunnel for hardening off. Done
      Level slabs. Most
Finish getting sales barrow ready. Nearly there
Mow front lawn again on lower cut. Done
Strimming anywhere that needs it. Done
Weed and tidy bed 5. Done
Possibly muck spreading if time. Not done ran out of time.

      Today
Everything out of tunnel hardening off
Undecided about chillies going out ( it's not sunny and supposedly getting worse as the day goes on)
      Thin out carrots
      Make it up after that.

      • Strimming a few bags full of nettle tops for weed brew bin - which smells like ummm, kannabis at the moment (apparently ). Plant out dwarf beans. Sow some other random stuff that I'm sure to come across in the plot shed.

Check my slug traps - No slugs
Start the beans hardening off outside - Almost everything went out today including the beans. They seem unfazed.
Slop drowned weeds into the compost (my weed drowning bin smells pleasing awful now) - Some. Very stinky and splashy. Bad combo.
Dig out some roots and drown - Some. Couch grass roots that were about 30 cm long.
Dare I say 'Trellis'? - Actually dragged the drill to the allotment and made it a bit more stable. Stood it up and pegged it to the ground. It's not much to look at but I am happy. Fingers crossed the wind doesn't whip it over if I actually get some beans to climb it.

I also did some potting on.

          Wednesday/Thursday

          Hardening off
          Digging weeds
          Poking dirt clods
          Trying to liberate some compost

          • Tuesday jobs
Sow melons, carrots, tomatoes to replace a few seeds that haven't germinated - done
Bring strawberries out of garage and shed - done
Plant peas - done Note to self - don't plant peas in rootrainers - the compost falls apart when you try to take them out, and the roots get stuck in the bottom bit. Got in a terrible tangle with these!
            Dig more horsetail - done
            Harvest salads, spinach - done

Also chopped some leylandii and potted up some of last year's strawberry runners into bigger pots.

            Wednesday jobs (rain forecast)
            Collect water at allotment
Collect slugs and snails for chickens
Sort out upstairs tomato plants (again)
Sow cosmos (if I can find anywhere to put them!)
Protect strawberries and potatoes (cold night forecast)
Harvest salads, kale, rhubarb and investigate mooli

Hardening off - Yes. Seedlings had their first introduction to rain...
Digging weeds - Yes, with help.
Poking dirt clods - Just a bit.
Trying to liberate some compost - Not today. I think I have to be prepared for the whole thing to tumble down if I poke it too much.

                Thursday/Friday

                Plant out some seedlings
                More weeding
Shuffle some of the messy looking things around the plot

                      • Friday

Plant out some seedlings - Planted four beans that I started too early and were too big to stay indoors. I expect they won't like it much. Planted out some cabbage and calabrese seedlings. I have more waiting in the wings after I see how it goes. Slug beer traps nearby.
More weeding - Yes, a bit. I'm reaching the stage where I'm starting to worry about how much of the plot is yet to tame. Mixed with pride at my little planted up bit though.
Shuffle some of the messy looking things around the plot - Rather the opposite. I added more to them. Alas.

                        Weekend

Check out new seedlings. Plant more brassicas if they seem ok.
                        Continue hardening off other seedlings.
Sow flower seeds in the back of the plot.
                        Weeding!

It's nice to have somewhere to keep track of goals (even though I'm quite delinquent) and vent my gardening thoughts.
