What I intend to do today/tomorrow!

  • Today, tidy the house and cook a roast dinner - family get together tonight.
    I shall of course pop out to the allotment for veg, but mustn’t let myself get carried away....

    Tomorrow, some weeding and general tidying, or painting timber in the garage if it’s too wet outside.

      At my friend's
      Feed slugs to chickens - done
      Weeding - done some
      Attempt to rescue leaning runner beans - look ok on closer inspection
      Harvest melons and remove dying plants - done
      Harvest beans, tomatoes - done
      Water greenhouse - done

      At home
      Deadheading - done some
      Apply nematodes (vine weevil and slug) if weather suitable - no
      Remove finished bush tomatoes and runner beans - done some tomatoes
      Tidy garage - done some
      Harvest tomatoes, beans, calabrese, carrots, check apples - done

      Also sowed some salad leaves.

      At allotment
      Collect slugs and snails - done
      Pull/dig horsetail - done some
      Weeding and clear up leaves - done some
      Tidy up stakes etc from finished tomatoes - done
      Do something with parsnip net (plants too big) - done
      Harvest lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, beans - done

      Also planted out some turnips.

      Monday jobs
      Apply nematodes (weather permitting)
      Pull/dig horsetail
      Weeding and deadheading
      Remove finished runner beans and lobelia
      Harvest tomatoes, carrots, calabrese, check apples

          • Autumnal clearing to continue, picked all the Howgate Wonder and James Grieve apples, chopped the top off the biggest Buddleia and shredded the prunings, some in the compost and some mulching the new Raspsberry bed. Some tommie plants finished in the greenhouse, with regular overnight temps now down to 4 degrees inside, not going to get anything from the late growth and flowers, so they will be going next.

              What I can do today will depend a lot on what time the new freezer arrives - it could be any time between now and 11am.
              Tidy wood shed at allotment and sort out things to go to the tip
              Pull horsetail from roadside hedge
              Weeding and deadheading
              Mow lawns if dry
              Harvest tomatoes, cucumber, lettuce, courgette, turnip, carrots, check apples
              Transfer tomatoes and soup to new freezer, freeze more tomatoes
              Watering if required

                Tidy wood shed at allotment and sort out things to go to the tip - done
                Pull horsetail from roadside hedge - no
                Weeding and deadheading - done some
                Mow lawns if dry - done
                Harvest tomatoes, cucumber, lettuce, courgette, turnip, carrots, check apples - actually harvested tomatoes, courgette, kohlrabi, carrots, leeks and apples because I decided to make soup for lunch instead of salad.
                Transfer tomatoes and soup to new freezer, freeze more tomatoes - done
                Watering if required - done

                • I will soon be setting off for my allotment. Hope to get some of the area I have dug recently hoed and raked and planted with some red Electric autumn planted onion sets. Then intend to do a bit more digging on the rough side of the plot

                    Take hedge prunings and miscellaneous jumble to tip
                    Dig over onion bed
                    Move compost from tomato bed to onion bed and put edge of tomato bed on top of onion bed edge
                    Start to dig horsetail out of tomato bed
                    Deadheading and weeding
                    Plan weekend gardening
                    Harvest tomatoes, lettuce, cucumber, calabrese, beans, carrots, check apples
                    Water pots

                            On Monday I sow seeds - this week mixed lettuce and salad leaves in the GH.
                            Do some tidying up in Bed 1A

                              • Monday 1st October in Leaves week :-

                                On Monday I sow seeds - this week mixed lettuce and salad leaves in the GH. NOT DONE. Found an infestation of caterpillars and I want to be sure they're all gone before I sow anything in there. May try Plan B in another GH.
