  • Weekend jobs (weather permitting)

    At my friends
Feed slugs to chickens - done
Fill water reservoirs in greenhouse - done
Make hotbed for melons - no (the muck trailer had been emptied)
    Plant courgettes - done
    Harvest cucumber - done

    Plus lots of weeding.

    At allotment
    Collect water - done
    Pull/dig horsetail - done some
    Weeding - done some
Take down 2nd melon plant and plant in hotbed - done
Remove leaning spinach - done some
Harvest beetroot, spinach, carrots, peas, strawberries - done plus new potatoes and turnip

Plenty else got done too - see my allotment thread for details.

    At home
Pot up brassica seedlings - no
Plant out Sungold tomatoes after wind dies down - done
Move Ferline tomatoes and cucumbers into growhouse - done and planted the cucumbers
    Weeding - done a bit
Harvest lettuce, salad greens, tomatoes, baby cauliflower - done plus a few peas

Also tidied the garage and rearranged the cauliflowers and removed some finished early peas to make room for the cucumbers.

Monday jobs (I'm expecting this week to be very wet and anything I can get done is a bonus.)
    Pot up brassica seedlings
Attempt to sort out hotbin, which has an ants nest in the bottom and needs emptying
    Weeding and deadheading
    Pull/dig horsetail
    Harvest spinach, tomatoes, peas, strawberries

    • I must be way behind as I have next to nothing to harvest this early in the growing season, I have salad crops and that is it. On the plus side, growing mostly in raised beds I have very little weeding to do and that can be done sitting down. I must be at least a month away from picking any veg, everything sown has been potted on or planted, I just talk nicely to everything, sometimes have a stern word with stuff that needs to get a move on and pollinate inside the green house with my selection of paint brushes(don't want to pollinate strawberries with same brush used for chilies lol)

Most of the things I am harvesting (spinach, beetroot, carrots, lettuce, tomatoes) were sown in January or early February and are either in the house or in the hotbed. The only "normal" crops I'm eating at the moment are turnips, peas and early new potatoes, plus the odd strawberry, although a March sowing of spinach would be ready now.

                  • Finally managed to convince Neil to leave the rickety raised beds standing until October/November. He'd planned to pull them down in mid-July which would have meant we'd have a load of soil to shift onto the top area which is why I've held off growing much (whilst inwardly cursing him for wasting a growing season grrrrr). Yesterday he popped up to the allotment and said it was looking so colourful it would be a shame to dig it all out....at which I seized my moment and 'casually' said that perhaps it would be best to just leave the demolition work until he has a week off when it's cooler and he actually agreed!!!

So today's jobs will be to pull out a few weeds and overgrown perennials from those beds and get some salad stuff down - radish, beetroot, lettuce etc.....whatever seeds I can basically root out from my boxes of packets and bung in basically

Also need to pot up various squash, melon and trombone seedlings into bigger pots so they can continue growing whilst I get the top area weeded and dug ready for them *whilst still inwardly cursing my dear husband for faffing around grrrrrr*
If I'm not on the Grapevine I can usually be found here!....https://www.thecomfreypatch.co.uk/

Plant out leeks and celeriac - done
Remove tomato sideshoots and tie in - done

Check white currants - done, probably ready to prune
Plant out the 3 tomatoes that can't wait any longer - no
Mow lawns if dry - done

Harvest peas, cauliflower, peppers (from plants overwintered in house) - done peas plus some lettuce from indoors

Also rearranged the cauliflowers so that there is room for tomatoes, but need compost which is supposed to come from the hotbin, which is still full of ants...

Monday jobs (weather permitting, currently raining)
                      Collect rain water

                      Weeding and deadheading
Harvest lettuce, tomatoes, cauliflower, check strawberries

                      • This week
Finish off putting chitted beans into loo roll.
Fill troughs with compost for greenhouse toms, outdoor toms and greenhouse sweet pots.

If i get to the plot it's slugwatch and feeding and watering

Next week, i need to mow to avoid a telling-off, i fear

Slugwatch did happen, but for all wrong reasons. Our plot was broken into, so I needed to check the shed. Luckily no-one had tried to break into it.

                            Plants are looking nice though.
