Looking out at the miserable, drizzly weather......not a lot. In fact nothing at all. It looks as if it will be Sunday before we get a half decent day here. Where is the season of mellow fruitfulness?

We've only got a couple of cooler days forecast over the next week so I want to use them to transplant/pot on some stuff.
Need to make a trip to the garden centre this weekend to buy more supplies.
Will probably pull the peas out. They're really struggling and its clear I won't get a decent crop from them. I might plant some more in a container, although the weather is really too hot to be starting them now.

Weekend jobs
This weekend will be a complete write-off. We have had 30mm of rain since yesterday lunchtime and there is probably half as much again still to come today. Tomorrow looks better, but I will have absolutely no time to do any gardening and it will probably be under water anyway. Therefore the joblist is:
Bring in hanging basket this evening (frost forecast)
Harvest lettuce, microgreens, carrots if possible.A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. LLAP. - Leonard Nimoy

Yet again the forecast is pouring rain and cold 6°C, but feeling like 3°C. It is so depressing. Nothing going to happen at the allotment today. But......light at the end of the tunnel.....tomorrow's forecast is full sun. So hopefully clear a greenhouse out tomorrow and weed the onions which are up now (depending how boggy it is).

Was going to last year but couldn't find any acorns but this year there are thousands on the roads and verges.

I’ve been raking leaves and building compost piles. There’s so much more to do. I think my rotary composter will be retired until spring as it’s unlikely to get warm given it’s relatively small volume.
One large new heap in an old tile crate ( about a cubic meter) did heat up gratifyingly to 68 degrees. It sunk right down all in a week or so. So I’ve added more layers on top of some tasty old cow manure, partially done compost from the rotary composter and grass clippings and leaves all garnished with a bit of chicken manure. Topped it off with plastic and put some containers of leeks and strawberries on it.
That area gets full sun so in late spring I’m hoping it will be decomposed enough to grow spuds or courgettes or pumpkin. I’ll check the temperature in a week or so but even if it doesn’t heat up it should compost down a bit.

As anticipated, almost nothing got done in the garden over the weekend. Saturday was impossible after about 2 inches of rain in 24hrs and yesterday was even busier than I expected. I did manage to sow a few lettuce seeds in a pot under the grow lights and cover the hanging basket with a piece of fleece when the temperature had dropped to 2C by about 8pm last night (white frost this morning).
