  • The garden seems to have exploded over the last few days so I need to get on top of it.

Mowing is my least favourite activity in the yard, but I really need to do some before the extreme heat returns. I will try to make a start on that today.

My latest seed order arrived so I guess I'll be sowing some of those today. Most aren't for me. They're plants I'm starting for other people and I'd like to have them established by Christmas.

    • Hoping to have a bit of time today (if the people I need to talk to would hurry up and answer my calls!), although everywhere is very, very wet.

      Friday jobs
      Deadheading
      Weeding if possible
      Plan weekend gardening
      Harvest carrots, calabrese/brokali

Childminding my 8 year old grandson so we are going to the rugby this afternoon, it’s the first round of the Heineken Cup and my team Leinster Rugby are hosting Benneton Rugby at home in the RDS. My grandson is staying overnight with me so I have to bring him to rugby training on Sunday morning. No garden work planned

Very difficult weekend with saturated ground, wet foliage and intermittent rain, so almost nothing got done.

            Monday jobs
Deadheading (if ground is dry enough to walk on)
            Weeding (ditto)
            Protect begonias from frost tonight
            Pot up lettuce seedlings

              Tuesday jobs
Frozen solid here this morning so any gardening will depend on whether it defrosts.
              Pot up lettuces
              Deadheading
Cut down dahlia and dig up tubers
              Collect more leaves.

Far too cold to do anything constructive, although I did manage to harvest a large carrot and some baby fennel.

                Wednesday jobs
Deadheading if ground fit to walk on
                Collect leaves
Scrape up slime from near garage door before it gets wet again and grows more

                  No gardening time tomorrow.

In case anyone is wondering about the lack of harvesting, I am trying desperately to create space in the freezer by eating copious quantities of previously frozen soup, cauliflower, spinach, peas and fruit as well as dealing with large numbers of rapidly ripening tomatoes (picked green)!

                    • The weekend has become a bit null and void for gardening. Some idiot has volunteered me to pull a horsebox along the A14 a ways and back with a pony inside Saturday. She's a dear old friend that through injury is unable to drive anymore, I know I'm soft, thats the daylight hours taken care of.
Sunday I've an hours drive south to spend 4 hours in the studio rehearsing with a band, then back locally and meeting some friends for a charidee Jam session at a former RBL club, then home for tea.
I'll be lucky to water the house plants this weekend.

                      • Plans for tomorrow.
Rake up all the wet leaves if it ever stops raining.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

                        • Regardless of how wet it is tomorrow (and the forecast is atrocious) I must visit the allotment and pick some leeks, parsnips and a swede and get some apples and potatoes out of the shed.

                            • Today I planed out some January cabbage plants I grew from seed, I also planted out some spring onions.
I sowed cabbage, cauliflower, brussel sprouts and onion seeds in the poly tunnel.
