  • Help for newbie with tomato plants

this is my first year growing and I am having mixed results I am concerned that 6 of my plants have curled up leaves and look leathery

I have searched around and have found mixed replies some say too much water and some say too little

They are in the greenhouse in grow bags and there is no yellowing on the leaves

    Help please

I cannot work out how to upload a photo either

Hi there,a pic is the best way to get results, then we can see just what is going on,in the mean time i will try to help,if they got to much water the plants will yellow and go limp,as they fight for life, but you say they are not,so i presume they are still as green,i wonder if they are young plants that have not opened their leaves yet,you say only 6,now,are your others ok,are the affected ones all the same variety, and different from your others,i ask this as plant leaves are that bit different between varieties, same as some have a longer stem between the leave axles, hope you get some more answers soon, and welcome to the forum lad.

It's difficult without seeing them Billy - how big/old are they? Sometimes they recover from curled leaves without treatment

        First things first.

To attach a picture click on Go Advanced, a new screen will open where you can type your message, scroll down and click on Manage Attachments, another screen will open, in the top right hand corner is the box where you can upload pics.

As to inward curling leaves providing all else is OK, plant nice and green etc it is usually to do with largely varying night and day temperatures.

If you can alter your profile to show which area you live and post a pic that will seriously help

Finally welcome to the mad house..

          Hi Billy's lad and welcome.
As you've just joined the Forum you won't be able to edit your profile yet so, just tell us where you live for now and we'll be happy.
With the photos, if you're adding them from your phone you will probably have to reduce the size for it to be accepted.
If you have any problems doing this, we'll try to talk you through them

I hope you can see from the photo I have 12 plants in the greenhouse 6 of which my dad gave me which have all been afflicted they are on opposite sides of the greenhouse and are three to a growbag

I have gardners delight toms in the grow bag next to these which seem fine and some beef tomatos next to the others and the plant nearest my dads seem to be doing the same but not to that extent

I hope the photo helps it is my first year of growing so I am quite anxious not to make any schoolboy errors

I have a cucumber plant ,melon and some peppers, chillies and herbs starting off in the greenhouse and a few things out side any help is greatly appreciated

                Well done, Lad
I wouldn't worry about them - they look OK to me. Good green colour. Different sorts of tomatoes have different shaped leaves anyway. Could be temperature affecting them, as the others have suggested.

Just read your next post! Do you know what type of tomatoes they are? Also whether they're bush or cordon as 3 bush tomatoes in a grow bag may be a bit too congested

^^^^^^^^Sorry to tell you this but you sound .....................hooked already, what we need to do now is to try and help you bring some success and you will unable to escape .........

As to your toms they look fine at this time. You say you have a cumber, that you will have to keep an eye on they are suicidal and will keel over at the first excuse.
