Courgette slug disaster - to late to re-sow?

Have had a disaster with courgettes and squashes. Slugs have killed off all but 3 of 13 courgettes, & about 5 squash plants. Went out tonight and literally hundreds of the little b*****s.

Am I to late to re-sow? Looking like no spaghetti squash this year, & can't bear to miss out on my courgette mountain. Also, who knew they liked spring onions so much

Its never too late to sow anything! That's my motto anyway - so start those seeds off tomorrow
I sowed some courgette & squashes abut 2 weeks ago. They're at 2 leaf stage now.

Thinking of keeping them in the gh until they get huge - the queensland blue which is big has coped best, so that, plus slug bait, slug traps, & torchlight vigils will be the tactics.

No spaghetti squash seeds left so phoning garden centres tomorrow to see if they have any.

I'm trying to hold back my seedlings to grow big before planting them out too.
Already lost some beans and courgettes because I was too keen to get them in the ground.

That may have been my problem. I really really hate slugs.......

This is why I like weird veg - slugs don't seem to go for them so much.

I love courgettes - will miss them if I don't have enough.....

You can still sow courgettes, HH. Lots of people sow a second round to ensure a good harvest when their first plants start to slow down a bit.

That's what I do with courgettes I think larger plants have a better chance of surviving out in the beds. Good luck with your next sowings

Certainly worth a try replanting more.

I find it helps when planting out to push a copper ring round the stem of each plant. You can easily make these from plastic bottles. Cut rings about 2 inches wide from the bottle and put a strip of copper tape round the ring and push it slightly into the soil. I find it easier to slip the ring on over the rootball as I plant rather than try to feed the ring over the leaves afterwards. Its not completely effective but it does slow the beggars down.

Two types of courgettes and 1 type of squash re-sown. Have ordered spaghetti squash online as none of the local garden centres have them. Should be here Wednesday.

Now to empty a jar of disgusting drowned slugs somewhere.....
