The answer to the last question is yes they can!! It would seem they prefer the underside of the leaves, so I turn any over that are upside down under the netting, seems to work.

You need to raise the netting up off the leaves Jimmy.
I use bamboo csnes with plastic bottles on top to keep the netting higher.

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

Top is OK it's on the sides !
There is a cane structure to support netting but they have grown too big.

Everything seems to have recovered and sprouts, broccoli and kale are full grown.

          Sprouts seem to be developing.
          Broccoli will no doubt appear.
And the Kale looks like it's ready to use.

So the question is can I remove the netting now.
          Have the cabbage whites finished.
Are the plants too big for pigeons.

Any ideas, I want to pack away the netting for winter.

          Thanks
          Jimmy

The woodpigeons never finish - never mind how big the plant.

              Think that might work?

The mesh needs to be fine enough to stop the pigeons pecking through the holes, they'll sit on a net to weigh it down and feast away.
