How's everyone's aubergines doing 2017?

Hello,

I haven't grown aubergines for a couple of years as I'm always disappointed with the results. This year I caved though and sowed some early indoors - 'Baby Belle' and 'Farmer's Long'. I've grown four on and they're now in 12" pots. I'm pretty pleased with how they're looking, good strong plants. How're everyone else's doing?

Neither me nor my wife like them, so I've never grown them, they're looking good though.

Looking lovely and healthy. I bought mine as plug plants and they're just beginning to get established. Nowhere near as vigorous as yours, though. Congratulations.

I've got 4 in the greenhouse border which I grew from seed and none of them look that good! 2 are a reasonable size and 2 are small. I've never grown before so seeing how I get on. Time will tell!

Thanks, no doubt they'll put out lots of pretty flowers and then go mouldy and keel over, just like all the other years!

Have you any idea why they do that? Is it just the end of the season? In which case, fruit didn't set?

Don't know, they seem to go away earlier than other plants, chillies and toms for example. Fruit not setting is definitely a problem, but this year I have a secret weapon - MISTING - so I can't fail!

We have five Money maker grown from seed doing well in the greenhouse but their sister plants in the lotty tunnel are looking decidedly poor. Re fruit not setting, I always tickle the flowers with a fingertip to help pollinate.
These below are planted in MFB's with a sprinkle of Vitax GrowOrganic (poultry based) mixed into the compost, we don't mist them (sorry Bario) and make sure they have plenty of ventilation.

I've got 3 varieties 2 of each.
Money maker grow this every year, always had a couple of fruit.
black beauty and early long purple are both new for me this year.
Early long purple seems incredibly viscous! It got spines everywhere.
I did take pics but the forum is having another hissy fit and won't let me.
They are all don't quite well, 2 varieties have flower buds on them.

I've got lots of flowers and the first fruits forming on a grafted plant I bought as a plug plant. I unfortunately cooked my little seed sown ones when I couldn't get to the greenhouse one morning

I've got a purple "money maker" with 2 flowers. Best I've ever done. Bought as little plant though so cheated a bit

Everyone's plants look fab. I have 2 black beauty that I overwintered (they make fabulous house plants as long as you get rid of the woodlice before you bring them inside) and some mixed Aubergine varieties all in smaller pots. The overwintered Aubs keep on throwing out flowers which i am dabbing with a paintbrush each day but so far no fruits. Only time will tell if they will amount to anything. I hope so as I've put loads of effort into not killing them so far!
